Draper is seeking a Principal Director of Civil and Commercial Space Programs to lead a diverse team of approximately 20 professionals with annual revenue exceeding $70M.
The Principal Director reports to the Draper Vice President of National Security & Space Programs (NS&S).
This position must work closely and collaboratively with the VP’s and Directors within our Engineering Directorate, Commercial Programs, Strategic Programs and Finance & Administration, as well as with colleagues within Special and Defense System Programs within NS&S. This position will have a leadership emphasis across multiple program areas within the Commercial and Civil Space sector, including Human Space Exploration and Civil Space Innovations.
The primary responsibility will include:
The ability to develop, maintain and foster relationships with the Space Community
Strong program and people management skills
Knowledge and expertise in spacecraft guidance, navigation, and control and human-rated processing and software is desired
Technically competent with a strong working knowledge to partner, manage and support technical staff and engineers
Liaison between Draper Headquarters and NASA Officials and Beltway / S&T / Acquisition elements, and will monitor Draper’s Huntsville and Houston site engineering and program staff activities and issues as relate to local facility capabilities
Develop Space business, technology initiatives, and new programs to achieve strategic goals
Develop break-out opportunities and required corporate investments to secure them, and develop capture plans, proposal strategies and teaming relationships in pursuit of new business
Foster an atmosphere of collaboration that allows all team members to be empowered to innovate
15+ years management experience within the Space Community and programs as a contractor or government manager, with very deep understanding of at least two sets of customers and NASA
Experience managing firm fixed price contracts
Graduate level degree within a technical discipline or demonstrated equivalent technical background in comparable leadership positions with frequent customer interaction
Self-starting, visionary team builder with demonstrated leadership qualities.
Established network of contacts & government acquisition process in the intelligence community and supporting industry
Outstanding interpersonal, presentation and communication skills.
Excellent understanding of the impact / role of technology on operations in: communications, collection, data analytics and cyber security
Experience qualifying business leads based on knowledge of operational challenges.
Flexibility for frequent travel 30%
Secret Clearance desired
