Microsoft Corporation Principal Program Manager in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Microsoft Cloud Operations & Innovation seeks new Principal Program Manager to lead the Sustainability in Data Center Construction Program. The candidate will manage a portfolio of activities aligned to sustainability goals to reduce embodied carbon and recycling of construction & demolition waste in datacenter construction operations, including: initiatives to increase process and data maturity, program implementation, General Contractor Outreach program, develop business cases for new technology applications, datacenter interconnection strategy and execution in partnership with Design, Supply Chain and Operations , communicate project needs and manage relationships across internal and external stakeholders, identify regulatory and policy opportunities for Microsoft, and spot emerging trends and innovation in sustainability and develop plan to bring in to our operations.

The candidate will have the ability to develop creative solutions that combine knowledge of established and non-established sustainability practices to achieve sustainability goals for Microsoft datacenters. The candidate brings an innovative, collaborative presence to the role towards driving sustainability program execution to meet sustainability targets. You will engage broadly across CO + I teams in the above mentioned stakeholder groups in driving sustainability projects.

  • Acting as a Data Center Construction sustainability subject matter expert to condense complex sustainability requirements into operational requirements, partnering with the various stakeholders.

  • Capable of clearly identifying and articulating business benefits to sustainability initiatives, describing pros and cons of possible options and documenting evidence in support of claims

  • Identifies and gathers resources across internal and external communities to ensure a positive impact of initiatives.

  • Lead carbon reduction and construction & demolition efforts in collaboration with the project teams, accruing to corporate goals.

  • Provide insights into best practices and improvement opportunities for environmental sustainability across the construction projects, report on progress and opportunities to the senior leadership team

  • Research and implement global sustainability related policies, regulations, standards and literature

  • Coordinate with the Microsoft Internal, external stakeholders and leadership to ensure that sustainability programs are aligned to corporate goals and initiative priorities.

  • Develop project specific sustainability implementation plan.

  • Prioritizing and managing multiple technically complex assignments concurrently.

  • Building collaborative relationships with various project and industry group stakeholders to advance sustainability initiatives across the regions.

  • Collecting, researching, and analyzing changing sustainability requirements of the datacenter operations and technical teams working on datacenter design, construction, operations, and innovation.

  • Coordinating with the Microsoft Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs group to ensure that sustainability goals are aligned to Microsoft’s corporate sustainability goals.

  • Learn, live, and coach the One Microsoft culture and values. Lead through change by bringing clarity, generating energy, and delivering success.


Basic Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of proven program management experience and depth working on and leading large scale infrastructure projects, systems and operations implementations combined with the technical expertise and ability to build trust with counterparts in Engineering, Commissioning and Operations

  • 5+ years of sustainability program management experience with a proven track record of driving sustainability projects and deployment of sustainability projects in large scale infrastructure projects.

  • BS or master’s degree in engineering or a related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Analytical thinking utilizing data to answer broad business questions, decide business priorities and monitor progress on targeted improvements

  • Demonstrated end-to-end thinking for technical projects focusing on driving process and operational efficiencies for maximum business impact

  • Strong effective communication capabilities to a VP level audience

Background Check Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.
