To solidify Microsoft’s leadership in this field, Microsoft has launched a ground-breaking AI Development Acceleration program (MAIDAP) to develop the next generation of leaders in AI. Over the course of two years, participants will work in interdisciplinary project teams to provide AI as a service to engineering teams across Microsoft and solve some of our most exciting and challenging AI problems. In addition, you will have mentors, exposure to leaders, and access to numerous AI data scientists, applied scientists, researchers and engineers across the company. After the program is completed, each participant will have the opportunity to work with one of the sponsoring Microsoft teams in Cambridge, MA, Redmond, WA or other Microsoft locations. 

MAIDAP Product Managers have the opportunity to leverage and implement cutting-edge AI technology to meet product needs, advancing the state-of-the-art both internally and externally. They act as the bridge between research and development (R&D), blending techniques from both domains to drive data-driven, research-based innovation from theory into practice. This role involves close collaboration with software engineers, applied scientists in MAIDAP, and partnering product and technology teams across Microsoft.

Please note that this position has a single start date in July 2025, candidates must be available to start full-time in July 2025. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate earlier start dates.

Responsibilities

  • Build consensus, influence others without authority, and collaborate with feature teams across Microsoft to translate business needs into AI solutions by developing a deep understanding of a feature, learning how customers use it, and using that knowledge to influence team features. Ship small features by understanding how the feature fits into the broader product or service area.

  • Develop problem statements and hypotheses to address customer needs or market opportunities using collaborative market and user research, competitive analyses, and an understanding of industry trends and regulations. Perform A/B experiments to test hypotheses and make data-driven decisions on new features. Define solution options and partners to translate hypothesis results into solutions. Identify potential customers by collaborating with various teams across Microsoft.

  • Partner with senior colleagues to clarify root problems and collaborate with teams (e.g., SWE, Design) to validate market size and opportunities with the goal of determining valuable features requirements.

  • Communicate product strategy to customers.

  • Create and manage end-to-end project plans for technical solutions. Provide hands-on product management during analysis, design, development, testing, and implementation to meet customer requirements. Provide day-to-day coordination in our Scrum teams. Ensure timely and high-quality delivery of projects by performing risk planning and management.

  • Evangelize group work with stakeholders and share knowledge by clearly articulating results and ideas to customers, managers, and key decision makers. 

  • Stay current with the latest machine learning research and technology and communicate your knowledge throughout the organization. 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree (or currently pursing a degree) in the following fields: Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Business Management, or related field AND relevant internship experience.

  • Or equivalent experience

  • Candidates must be available to start full-time in July 2025.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree (or currently pursuing a degree) in the following fields: Business Management, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field.

  • Experience in project/product/program management or customer design. 

  • Familiarity with machine learning and/or statistics, including LLMs/SLMs/multi-modal models/probabilistic graphical models/Bayesian networks/deep learning/reinforcement learning/time series/active learning, or other modeling paradigms a bonus.  

  • Proficient written and oral communication skills that allow for effective data storytelling and teamwork.

  • Familiarity with Python/R/Java or similar.

  • Energized by creating AI solutions that can positively impact the work and lives of millions of people. 

  • Passion for data-driven learning and decisions. 

  • You are excited by the prospect of working on a wide variety of datasets and AI applications, across many products and engineering teams. 

  • You believe that AI is a team sport. 

  • You enjoy being an active member of a diverse and inclusive cohort. 

  • Experience in data analysis and data visualization a bonus. 

Product Management IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $81,900 - $160,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $105,600 - $174,600 per year.
