Abt Associates Project Director - Survey Data Collection in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Opportunity

We seek a passionate, well-qualified, mission-driven Associate / Project Director to join our team to help design and lead large, complex surveys and data collection projects, working primarily with federal, state, and local agencies. The role is focused on driving our pursuit and conduct of projects in the areas of multi-mode data collection (e.g., in-person, telephone, web, mobile, IVR, etc.) and leveraging new forms of data capture (e.g., use of secondary data & administrative records, mobile data, web-scraping, IOT data, etc.). As a growing leader in the field, the primary responsibility will be overseeing all aspects of data collection projects. Associates will als assist in business development working closely with Abt’s many subject matter experts, data collection experts, data scientists and technology specialists.

The location of the position may be in any one of our regional offices (Rockville, MD; Cambridge, MA; Atlanta, GA; or Durham, NC – or as a primary telecommuter).

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the planning, design, and implementation of large-scale projects.

  • Manage multiple survey projects

  • Assist in in the development and implementation of a strategy for identifying and winning large-scale opportunities that would utilize Abt’s survey research and data capture capabilities.

  • Manage/contribute to proposal efforts and manage client relation/development activities

  • Collaborate with peers in other divisions

  • Write study documentation, OMB and IRB submissions, methods reports, IRB and training manual

Preferred Skills / Prerequisites

  • Master’s degree or PHD in social science, statistics, survey research, or related area and experience directing surveys plus some experience with qualitative, mixed-methods, or data science research

  • Experience in winning new work and strong client relationship management, with a focus on on large federal government opportunities in the areas of survey research and data capture

  • Excellent project management skills, particularly with larger, more complex government client projects

  • Proven ability as a team leader and work collaborator across an array of disciplines within a large research organization

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills as well as written and verbal communications skills

  • Experience in quantitative and data analytics, including modeling, design and execution using survey and administrative data

  • Good understanding of the uses of data science analytics (Machine learning, natural language processing, text analytics, etc.) and technology in the evolving field of data capture within the government contracting space

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree + Seven years of relevant experience, or PhD + Four years of relevant experience
