REFERRAL SPECIALIST, MIT Medical, to facilitate prior authorizations and required referrals to satisfy health insurance requirements. Will collaborate with patients, patients’ providers, and representatives from partner health care providers and diagnostic sites; maintain core medical terminology and health insurance knowledge in order to ensure appropriate connections and appointments are made with the correct referral partners; be the key facilitator for all communications between all parties, ensuring all referral appointments have been scheduled, following through to provider should a patient decide not to pursue suggested referral(s), and handling any referral-related patient issues that arise; and use good judgment and knowledge of key medical terminology and clinical processes to ensure that referrals are correctly and expediently executed. This is a highly visible position with extensive in-person, electronic, and telephone contact with patients.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: high school diploma or GED; three years’ experience working with health care referrals as a patient service representative or in equivalent positions in a health care setting; excellent customer service skills; ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously using sound prioritization, follow-through, and organizational skills; effective telephone skills; ability to communicate effectively with patients, clinicians, and other professional staff; ability to work independently or within a team environment with diverse internal/external constituencies; knowledge of medical terminology and health care overview of primary care interaction with specialty services such as pre-admission and pretesting requirements; working knowledge of insurance regulations, form completion, and CPT and ICD10 coding; and experience using telephone software and headset (Cisco preferred), including the ability to spend several hours using telephone systems each day.
