At least one-year laboratory experience required (relevant coursework may count towards experience). Laboratory experience in addition to course work required.Additional Qualifications and Skills:
Ability to perform, analyze and resolve technical issues related to mouse work. Tissue culture and biochemistry required. Experience with super-resolution structured illumination microscopy and analysis required. Strong experience with primary neuronal culture is required. Experience with mechanisms of proteostasis is a strong plus.
Must be comfortable with adapting to new techniques and approaches. Must be able to work independently in the lab as well as under the direction of the lead investigator. Excellent communication skills. Sound interpersonal skills and the ability to supervise others. Ability to work independently and display initiative to introduce innovations to the research study. Ability to identify problems and develop solutions. Ability to prioritize tasks and set deadlines. Functions with speed, precision and a strong and rooted understanding of the theory behind procedures. Demonstrates initiative and is invested in the success of research projects.

This work will be performed on campusDepartment:Molecular and Cellular BiologyPre-Employment Screening:Identity Schedule:35 hours per weekJob Function:Research Job-Specific Responsibilities:This project uses genetics, biochemistry, electron microscopy, and cell biological approaches to understand the fundamentals of how this novel system of neuronal signaling is coded and decoded in the mammalian brain. The Research Assistant will work closely with lab members and the PI to learn techniques, and then independently to perform routine/non-routine techniques. The RA will assist in the design of laboratory experiments, techniques, and protocols; process, organize and summarize data; and report experimental results using a variety of scientific, word processing, spreadsheet or statistical software applications or program platforms.
