Additional Information:This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.

Job Function:Research Position Description:This project aims to study how animals coordinate their sensory systems to explore their environment and how they use incoming information to update their understanding of the world. Our goal is to characterize subcortical brain circuits and algorithms that mediate exploration. Responsibilities include carrying out behavioral and molecular experiments and research according to protocols given by lab members. This will include basic procedures such as brain slicing using a vibratome or a cryostat, staining for proteins using immunohistochemical techniques, identifying RNAs via in situ analysis, tracing neural circuits through genetic labeling, etc. Handle and maintain animal colonies, including colony tracking and genotyping. Find and test relevant protocols from primary literature. Analyze data and present results at lab meetings and during one-on-one meetings with the PI and direct supervisor. Maintain laboratory equipment and inventory. Although the intention of the position is to primarily support research efforts, the technician will occasionally assist with broad lab support tasks as needed like ordering.
