  • At least one year related work experience (relevant course work may count towards experience).

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

  • Familiarity with experimental design, buffer and reagent preparation, and basic protein biochemistry.

  • Excellent organizational skills are essential, and a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline is preferred.

Additional Information:This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.

Department:Biological Chemistry & Molecular Pharmacology (BCMP)Pre-Employment Screening:Identity Schedule:35 hrs. per week | Monday - Friday | 9:00 am - 5:00 pmJob Function:Research Position Description:The Kruse lab in the Department of Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at Harvard Medical School seeks a research technician to perform routine laboratory experiments, including molecular biology and biochemistry experiments, in support of research on novel antibiotic targets. Other responsibilities include assisting with more complex experiments, careful record keeping, and assistance with overall lab organization and operations such as managing supply inventory.

Work in the Kruse lab centers on understanding membrane protein structure and function, and this position will primarily focus on bacterial membrane proteins with potential value for antibiotic drug discovery. Experiments will include bacterial cell culture, cloning, protein expression and purification, and antibody purification. Responsibilities:

  • Performing routine experiments (e.g., bacterial cell culture and harvesting).

  • Assisting with complex experiments led by postdoctoral fellows or other lab members (e.g., a membrane protein purification).

  • Record keeping and basic office work.

  • Lab operations support (inventory, ordering, etc.)
