Position Description

Summary

The Department of Molecular Metabolism at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health is seeking a Research Associate with mass spectrometry expertise to help oversee the Harvard Chan Advanced Multi-Omics Platform (ChAMP). The platform currently consists of three mass spectrometers and provides metabolomics and lipidomics support to the Department, the Harvard-Chan School, and the local research community. Extensive prior experience in mass spec-based lipidomics is a requirement for this position, with additional experience in metabolomics a plus. The Research Associate will join the vibrant scientific community of the Department of Molecular Metabolism, with research questions focused on the metabolic basis of human health and disease. The labs in the Department work to ravel the molecular mechanisms through which key metabolic reactions and processes are controlled and how dysfunction in these control mechanisms cause or contribute to the most common human diseases, including metabolic diseases and cancer. Job Duties

The role is dynamic with a broad range of duties that encompass all aspects of the Platform’s operations. With the assistance of a dedicated research assistant and working with department faculty and administrative and financial staff, the research associate will

· Optimize lipidomic and metabolomic methods, including stable isotope tracing, to actively

participate in the research efforts of the department laboratories

· Oversee the operation and maintenance of the platform’s high-end instrumentation

· Train and mentor staff members, students and research fellows in -omics experiments and data analysis

· Develop materials related to platform services, including providing materials for grant proposals, updating the platform’s website, and participating in research publications

· Oversee the platform budget and help manage its finances

Basic Qualifications

· Ph.D. in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, or related fields

· Extensive experience and qualification in lipidomics

· High level of initiative and motivation; ability to work independently and with a team; excellent communication, organization, time management, and record-keeping skills.
