Biogen Scientist I, Analytical Chemistry in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Biogen is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a Scientist I position in the Analytical Development department in Cambridge, MA. This position is in the Biochemistry and Chemistry Development group (AD BioCD) and will work within a cross-functional team to advance our biologics portfolio.

The candidate will provide expertise and knowledge in analytical method development, optimization, and qualification, as well as implementation of new analytical technologies for in-depth analysis of protein therapeutics. The candidate should have extensive experience and knowledge in analytical techniques such as mass spectrometry and separation science.

Summary of Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, qualify and implement LC-MS based analytical methods for in-depth characterization of protein and other biologics therapeutics.

  • Author method development, qualification and characterization reports, technical memos, SOPs, etc.

  • Perform detailed characterization of biologics therapeutic using advanced methodologies.

  • Provide technical leadership such as critical review of data, troubleshooting assays, and training others on analytical methods. Share technical expertise with others and mentor junior scientists.

  • Proactively collaborate with cross-functional teams in identifying and troubleshooting product and process-related issues using advanced analytical tools.

  • Contribute to and lead scientific publications, internal/external presentations, proposals, etc.

  • Represent and/or support AD in program teams.

  • Strong background and technical expertise in analytical chemistry methodologies such as mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography and electrophoresis.

  • Experience in protein characterization using mass spectrometry

  • Experience in analytical method development using liquid chromatographic and electrophoretic approaches, such as HILIC, HIC, SEC, RP, IEC, CE-SDS and icIEF is highly desirable

  • Proficient in good documentation practices, data analysis, reporting and review.

  • Ability to work independently in lab but with strong collaboration and communication skills.

*Education: *

PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related Biological Sciences + 0-2 years of relevant experience; MS degree in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related Biological Sciences + 4-6 years of relevant experience. BS degree in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related Biological Sciences + 6-8 years of relevant experience.
