The Sr. Director/VP of IR will be responsible for overseeing the development of a new in-house IR capability aimed at creating an open, bilateral dialog with the investment community that maintains and builds trust and credibility over the long term. This leader will create and implement an approach based on our science and positioning that develops a deep and relevant shareholder base aligned with the company’s trajectory through formal and informal communications, roadshows, analyst engagement, and other events. They will be a key strategic cross-functional business partner, interfacing with nearly all functions of the company to develop, align, and execute investor-facing communications. This person will also bring the voice of the investment community to strategic discussions with the executive team, develop a tight analytical interface between the financial analysis group and business/corporate development teams.
The Sr. Director/VP of IR will report to the Chief Financial Officer. This is a highly visible position for an individual who demonstrates strategic and analytic thinking, confidence, humility, creativity, effective communication skills, and collaboration. The ability to listen to investors in dialog is key. There will be ample opportunity for career development within this role for the right candidate.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Work cross-functionally to develop strategic investor messaging, including the ‘story’ and a roadmap to value creation. Develop supporting documents, such as analyst consensus models, company valuation spreadsheets, investor presentations for conferences and road shows, quarterly earnings scripts, Q&A for management, and all press releases related to the financial community
Ability to act as Company spokesperson and gatekeeper with investors; handle day to day IR calls with buy-side and sell-side personnel
Provide research on the industry and company peer stock surveillance, including market sentiment and summaries of peer and competitor quarterly reports and news flow
Provide thoughtful creation of the investor relations calendar, including highly targeted roadshows and conferences to effectively utilize management’s time and the company’s outreach
Manage the Company’s relationships with buy-side analysts by providing clear, accurate and neutral communication
Mange the Company’s sell-side relationships to build credibility and thoughtfully use the channel to refine and disseminate the Company’s key value drivers
Provide recommendations for setting guidance and financial targets
Draft materials, present, and educate the Company’s Board of Directors on investor sentiment and strategy
Draft and manage the corporate communication calendar and related communications
Inwardly sound – able to maintain open, neutral, and direct professional engagement with a wide variety of personalities in a range of contexts
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; be a confident and effective leader; be self-motivated; have excellent time management skills; and be able to manage projects independently
High degree of independent judgment and ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
Demonstrated ability to build an effective investor relations program and relevant messaging
Ability to create and analyze financial models related to company performance and valuation
Ability to work in a fast‐paced environment with flexible work hours to meet tight deadlines
Must have a strong work ethic, attention to detail and a desire to produce top level results
Highly proficient in Excel and PowerPoint
Based in Cambridge MA; must be open to business travel
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree and 8+ years of finance related experience in sell or buy-side equities, or investor relations
