SENIOR FINANCIAL COORDINATOR, Chemical Engineering, to work with the senior financial officer for research administration on managing and performing comprehensive financial management for a portfolio of sponsored research activities. This will include pre- and post-award administration, ensuring compliance with MIT policies and sponsor requirements, and advising principal investigators (PIs) on matters related to sponsored research accounts. Responsibilities include providing cradle-to-grave sponsored research administration support; preparing and submitting research proposals/contracts, including assisting PIs with budgets and administrative content of proposals; preparing standard/nonstandard reports and forecasting; completing pre-award administration, including reviewing solicitations and determining necessary components, organizing PI proposals, and managing application renewals and submissions; participating in sponsored project closeout process, including submitting final reports and certificates; ensuring assigned portfolios are compliant with MIT research administration policies; monitoring all aspects of research financial management of assigned portfolio, including overseeing cost-sharing, under-recovery, overruns, etc.; recommending policy changes and new initiatives and developing improvements/innovations to enhance performance; assisting with the preparation of larger scale financial reports; reviewing and ensuring the timely processing and submission of a variety of information related to sponsored activity; and other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED: bachelor‘s degree; three years’ financial management experience, including the administration of sponsored research programs in a university setting; strong communication, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team, handle deadlines and stressful situations, and multitask; attention to detail; knowledge of federal guidelines; flexibility in adjusting to new technologies related to grant and sponsored contract management; and experience with Microsoft Excel. PREFERRED: experience with MIT systems, e.g., Kuali Coeus, SAP, Cognos, BrioQuery, and NIMBUS. Job #20156-7 9/14/21
