AbbVie has invested in a new research enterprise in Cambridge, Massachusetts - the Cambridge Research Center (CRC). As part of CRC, the AbbVie Foundational Neuroscience Center (FNC) is investigating the fundamental biological mechanisms underpinning neurodegenerative diseases with particular attention to Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD).
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Senior Scientist with 2-photon microscopy experience to join the In Vivo Pharmacology team at the FNC. This individual will be responsible for designing, executing and interpreting longitudinal in vivo 2-photon studies to support identification and preclinical validation of novel targets. Additional responsibilities will include designing and executing in vivo studies for target identification, target validation and preclinical efficacy in Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease model systems to support drug discovery efforts. The candidate should have extensive laboratory research experience and a desire to continue in a laboratory-focused role. Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential as this individual is expected to operate in a fast-pace multi-disciplinary environment.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain a high level of productivity in the laboratory, and contribute technical and scientific expertise to the in vivo pharmacology team
Independently design, execute, and interpret critical experiments to answer scientific questions
Utilize expertise in 2 photon microscopy and in vivo pharmacology to support decision making on select targets
Work diligently and efficiently to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Read and apply relevant scientific literature
Adhere to safety and compliance
Participate and present in internal meetings
Publish research in peer-reviewed journals and present work at scientific forums
Train and manage direct reports
Qualifications
PhD or MS or BA in Neuroscience, Biology or related field with 7-10+ years (BA), 5-8+ years (MS), or 0-4 years (PhD) of pharmaceutical, biotech industry, and/or academia experience
Expertise conducting longitudinal, in vivo 2-photon microscopy experiments in animal models of neurodegenerative disease
Must have excellent in vivo skills including stereotaxic surgery, dosing and tissue harvesting
Proficiency with ex vivo assay techniques (e.g. ELISAs, WB, qPCR) and/or histology/immunohistochemistry
Significant understanding of neurodegenerative diseases and mechanisms of neurodegeneration
Strong scientific writing skills, excellent verbal communication skills, and ability to work well in a collaborative team-oriented environment
Strong organizational skills that enable multitasking and working within timelines
