Position Summary

The Delivery and Editing Technologies Team optimizes current and new editing and delivery technology formats to provide the best in vivo delivery and gene editing solutions for current and future therapeutic programs and is looking to add highly talented and motivated candidate to help develop our lipid nanoparticle (LNP) platform for advancing new therapies. This individual will lead the development of the lipid nanoparticle (LNP) formulation process and produce LNP-encapsulated gene editing agents to support company’s in vitro and in vivo pre-clinical studies. In addition, they will support the characterization assays for LNP batches and show a passion for developing delivery strategies suitable for clinical investigation. With a strong background in LNP formulation and characterization this person will work within cross-functional product development teams including Formulation Development, mRNA Process Development, Analytical Development, Engineering and Quality in development and commercialization of gene therapy drug products.

Key Responsibilities:

As the Senior Scientist, LNP Formulation and Delivery Technology, you will be responsible for:

  • Develop and optimize the LNP formulations, including the potential inclusion of targeting moieties, to support pre-clinical in vivo delivery animal studies

  • Formulate mRNAs, guide RNAs, and other nucleic acid modalities to support company’s in vitro and in vivo pre-clinical studies

  • Characterization of LNPs to support transition to process development groups

  • Play an important role in equipment design for scale up LNPs-mRNA production to required scales, for both pre-clinical and clinical development

  • Coordinate with the chemistry group at the Boulder site to ensure smooth technology transfer between our chemistry and in vivo teams

  • Successfully manage direct reports to achieve company LNP goals

  • Maintain a detailed electronic lab notebook and documentation records

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related discipline or B.S./M.S. with 7-10 years industry experience

  • Industry Experience Required

  • Strong knowledge of nucleic acid chemistry, development of liposomal, LNPs, or similar lipid-based drug products

  • Experience with the in vitro and in vivo experiments and assays used for screening candidate formulations

  • Knowledge of process scale up/scale down for liposomal, LNPs, or similar lipid-based drug products is a major plus

  • Knowledge of GMP and GLP regulations is a plus

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
