About the Role
This internship is part of the Rising TIDE program. Elsevier created its Rising TIDE (Tomorrow, Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity) internship program to foster inclusion and diversity as well as provide individuals with work experience in the corporate world so that we can develop a pipeline of talent for entry-level individuals for post-graduation opportunities.
We are seeking a Software Engineer Intern to join our Nursing Health Education Assessment team, and division within Health Markets. In this high-profile team, you will be supported to grow your engineering skills in collaboration with our diverse, supportive group. The Software Engineering Intern will be part of a large development squad on the high stakes, customer-centric, flagship product HESI. The HESI product is most commonly used as an exit exam to university nursing programs. This is a pivotal moment in the lives of our users!
This is a remote or home-based role that can be open to various locations in the eastern and central time zones.
Duration: 10 weeks starting June 3, 2025, through August 8, 2025.

Responsibilities
Working to learn the relevant technologies and systems in place.
Completing clearly defined tasks and effectively communicating when something is blocking progress.
Making an impact by delivering features, refactoring existing code, and actively maintaining and extending our current systems.
Working closely with other developers and stakeholders to learn and understand our goals and workflows, your tasks, and our agile-based development approach.
Helping debug technical problems and submitting issues so that we can document and improve our services.
Demonstrating solid engineering fundamentals, have a good work ethic, and be able to communicate clearly and in a respectful manner.
Requirements
Be a current student pursuing a bachelor's or masters in a related field (i.e., Computer Science, Computer Engineering, etc.) and graduating May 2026 or later.
Possess hands-on development experience with Java and AWS.
Demonstrate a working knowledge of relational databases such as Oracle, AWS, RDS, or PostgreSQL.
Thrive on working collaboratively and enjoy supporting, learning from, and sharing knowledge with a team of people from different backgrounds.
Familiarity and experience with unit or integration tests for your code are advantageous.
Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodology using Jira is advantageous.
Familiarity with source control management systems such as GitHub is advantageous.

Salary Range
$28/hour for undergraduate students$30/ hour for graduate students
