IBM Software Strategy Engagement Manager in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Introduction

The Software Strategy Engagement Manager (Engagement Manager) is responsible for leading strategic engagements to develop novel insights and formulate differentiated strategies to accelerate IBM’s Hybrid Cloud and AI strategy. The Engagement Manager’s objective is to lead strategic consulting engagements that create new insights through data/analytics and design strategies that transition quickly to execution for immediate and lasting impact. Successful engagements will accelerate client adoption of our Hybrid Cloud, AI and software platforms and drive sustainable software revenue growth. The Engagement Manager is most of all a leader who delivers strategy projects, generates new insights, identifies root causes, solves business problems, and develops other team members. Over time, Engagement Manager should become a trusted advisor to senior software executives based on the quality and impact of their work.

Your role and responsibilities

The Engagement Manager’s objective is to lead strategic consulting engagements that create new insights through data/analytics and design strategies that transition quickly to execution for immediate and lasting impact. Successful engagements will accelerate client adoption of our Hybrid Cloud, AI and software platforms and drive sustainable software revenue growth. Responsibilities include:

The Engagement Manager will

  • Structure and deliver strategic consulting engagements

  • Use data, quantitative modeling, market analysis, competitive benchmarking, expert interviews, operational analysis and root cause identification

  • Lead strategic discussions and build relationships with senior software executives, demonstrating acumen in the software business in the process

  • Develop decision-ready recommendations to senior business leaders

  • Develop the individuals on the teams they lead

  • Lead change initiatives to ensure strategies deliver targeted business outcomes

  • Meet the planning, control, and administration of any financial activities related to assigned projects

The Engagement Manager will also play an important role in building an organizational capability to deliver strategy project and business outcomes with speed and precision

Key Skills and Behaviors

Structured Thinking and Strategic Consulting: Structured thinking and ability to develop frameworks and data to address unstructured challenges and lead an end-to-end strategic consultative process that delivers strong recommendations and a path forward

Data and analytics: Deep skills and understanding of data and analytical methods to yield strategic insight, including root cause and statistical analyses. This includes advanced use of Excel and data science methods and tools (e.g., SQL, etc.)

Speed: Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced, multi-threaded work environment, including dealing with shifting priorities and make progress on multiple fronts with speed and precision

Ownership: Take ownership for the outcomes of projects and ensure alignment of the same to IBM’s strategies, objectives and values

Communications: Outstanding oral and written communication skills as demonstrated through their prior work and educational experience

Trusted Advisor: Ability to build trusted advisor relationships with senior business executives

Openness & Teamwork: Maintain positive work relationships, lead without authority, and demonstrate strong teamwork with peers, management, and clients. Willingly "give back" to develop the team’s knowledge base

Required technical and professional expertise

5-7 years’ experience in Strategy Consulting, Software, Banking/Finance, Data Science

Technical or quantitative undergraduate degree

Preferred technical and professional experience

MBA from a top school

10 years’ experience in Strategy Consulting, Software, Sales, Data Science, or Banking/Finance
