Ten or more years of research experience preferably in an academic, health care, or other complex environments, including eight or more of years as the supervisor of a research team or organization.Additional Qualifications:Knowledge of, interest in and experience with longitudinal research studies and/or sports medicine. Experience running clinical studies. Proven program management skills including an ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate staff. Project Management Institute (PMI) or similar training or certification desired but not required. Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills are essential. Excellent organizational and writing skills. Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook. Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced, complex environment with multiple and conflicting interests. Ability to work across teams and with a variety of projects and constituencies. Previous experience in academia or health care will be highly valued. The Harvard Medical School is not able to provide visa sponsorship for this position.Department:Harvard Catalyst | Clinical and Translational SciPre-Employment Screening:Criminal, Education, IdentityJob Function:General Administration Job-Specific Responsibilities:The Senior Director will report to the Executive Director of Harvard Catalyst | The Harvard Clinical and Translational Science Center, and will work closely and collaboratively with the Principal Investigator (PI) of the Football Players Health Study at Harvard (“Study”) to develop and implement research plans that will meet or exceed milestones as set forth in the contract with the NFL Players Association (“Sponsor”). The Senior Director will work with the PI and other faculty leaders to define the research direction for the Study and managing the Study’s execution. The Senior Director will be responsible for overseeing the staff who will conduct the research; direct reports will include senior-level research administrators. The Senior Director will work closely with the Harvard Catalyst Executive Director and staff leadership on matters of finance and administration, including but not limited to grants management, human resources, space planning, contracting, communications, and data management/security.
Working closely with the Study PI and Harvard faculty, communicates the Study vision, defines Study priorities, and strategically oversees all Study resources
As needed, prepares reports to the Sponsor, and organizes meetings with the Sponsor
Oversees all Study personnel and/or functional areas. Duties include hiring, mentoring, training, performance evaluation
In collaboration with Harvard Catalyst leadership, develops and oversees Study budgets and other Study assets
Provides research oversight and guidance throughout the research process for dozens of studies
Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements for all studies
Develops and oversees systems that will ensure that research efforts are synchronized and coordinated. Orchestrates collaborative working systems among the Study's faculty, staff leadership, and partnering organizations (i.e., related to regulatory compliance, data collection, informatics infrastructure, recruitment processes, and study design and execution)
Develops and oversees systems that track and monitor research activities and progress
Oversees the definition, engagement, and management of working groups and advisory groups
Develops and leads management meetings (including those with faculty and staff) to ensure coordination across the Study (i.e., responsible for setting agendas and leading conversations with faculty and staff and ensuring projects are coordinated and moving forward)
Represents the Study to external stakeholders as needed
Other duties as required
