How will you make an impact?

  • As a leader in our Viral Vector Services (VVS) division, you will help to drive growth and bring new gene & cell therapy products to market for our clients – and patients in need of new treatments and potentially curative medicines. Reporting directly to the Site Head of Project Portfolio Management, this key leadership role will be accountable for driving the execution and delivery of site projects and programs, in alignment with our PMO and leveraging our PPI Business System (PPI: Practical Process Improvement). In addition, you will partner with the VVS Global PPM / PMO for local site PMO responsibilities.

What will you do?

Lead strategic site initiatives through the project lifecycle from initiation to project close-out while ensuring that the project benefits are being delivered and realized per plan to the business; Integrate project information from the functional leads and stakeholders to develop and maintain project execution plans that are accurate and current; Serve as a local PPM/PMO lead – developing and rolling out standard processes, business systems, and best practices, dashboarding and metrics; ensuring that we are doing the right projects at the right time; managing project resources; enabling VVS to work smarter and more efficiently every day; Organize, centralize and share project updates, KPIs, and dashboards; always keeping a close “pulse-check” on the health of our site projects – and knowing when and where to escalate; Serve as a change agent – someone who can influence up, down, and across the organization, build consensus, and ultimately make positive changes to the business; sees opportunities to “find a better way every day” and has the courage to take action and/or challenge the status-quo; Drive a culture of being “planned and predictable” in how we operate our business; Organize and maintain project information and reports on SharePoint/Teams site so there is one source of the truth; Resolves complex issues and competing priorities and creates mitigation plan in order to drive to resolution; Tension and challenge project teams to execute per plan, consider alternative perspectives, and to ensure there is alignment to our overall strategy; Understands strategic focus areas and sets/resets priorities for team i.e. Single Source of Truth; Serves as customer interface at portfolio level driving accuracy and consistency to data; Active leader and contributor of workstreams to define standards, processes, and toolsets that broaden and mature the project management discipline across VVS; Develops and leads training sessions on specific PM topics related to tools, systems and process; Interfaces and develops trusted partnerships across VVS and PSG network; Partners with other functions to provide system generated data for aggregation into reports and in support of our annual goal setting process; Facilitates and drives working sessions; leveraging flexible toolkit of techniques, with the ability to adapt approach to the needs of the project/audience; Collaborates with other members of the PMO to implement new or enhanced processes to better support project teams and the broader organization;

How will you get here?

A minimum of an Associates, preferably in business and/or engineering. BA/BS or MBA and/or PMP preferred, but not required.

  • Associates:

  • 7+ yrs. leading or supporting complex projects/programs/portfolios/PMOs;

  • 5+ yrs. in Life Sciences, Pharma or Biotech;

  • BA/BS MBA and/or PMP:

  • 5+ yrs. leading or supporting complex projects/programs/portfolios/PMOs;

  • 3+ yrs. in Life Sciences, Pharma or Biotech;

  • Proven leadership experience in managing a matrix team;

  • PM, PMO, strategy, and/or business analysis experience required;

  • CDMO experience is a strong plus, but not required

Strong relationship management and leadership skills; Balanced technical and business acumen; Entrepreneurial spirit – proactive, open-minded and humble; Strategic, results-driven, and self-motivated with competitive drive to win / be the best; Master communicator and listener; ability to share information effectively; Project, program, and portfolio experience; familiar with PMI, Lean, PPM and PMO best practices; Ability to motivate and influence without line-management authority; Highly collaborative team player who fosters open communication and facilitates mutual understanding; Excellent organizational skills with an ability to embrace change and multi-task in a fast-paced CDMO environment; Experience in creating and managing resource models and tools, managing budgets, measuring project earned value, and calculating NPV/ROI; Demonstrated ability to drive process improvement initiatives and coordinate resources; Excellent time management, organization, and planning skills; Strong business analysis skills, proven meeting facilitation and documentation skills; Embraces new technology along with advanced expertise with Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, MS Project, etc.; Advanced SharePoint and SmartSheet experience is a plus, but not required.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to function in a rapidly changing environment and handle multiple priorities;

  • A flexible work schedule is required;

  • May require some travel, but will be minimal <10% of the time.
