Must be very detail-oriented, organized, and self-motivated. Harvard experience a plus.

The Microbial Sciences Initiative (MSI) at Harvard is an interdisciplinary science program aimed at a comprehensive understanding of the richest biological reservoir of the planet, the microbial world. MSI plays a leadership role in this area by encouraging broad interactions among microbial scientists across the Boston area, and connects work on microbial sciences to ongoing work in related areas including molecular biology, biogeochemistry, oceanography, and environmental engineering. MSI supports a variety of programs that encourage research interactions, including undergraduate fellowships for summer research, a graduate student consortium, seminars, and a yearly symposium.
OEB is a diverse and vibrant department with a broad range of research and teaching interests, ranging from the evolution and control of gene expression patterns within individuals and populations to the dynamics of ecosystems. The Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology (OEB) is looking for a part-time Program Assistant for the Microbial Sciences Initiative (MSI) at Harvard. The Program Assistant is responsible for administrative and financial support for the program. Some responsibilities include:
·Assisting with all event logistics for the seminar series, symposium, conferences, and other events. Logistics include addressing vendor logistics, catering, visitor travel arrangements, space reservations, and registration management.
·Provides front line support for occasional evening and weekend events. Works closely with Scientific Program Manager to coordinate workflow.
·Coordinates student grant and fellowship applications by serving as point of contact for students, overseeing intake of applications, and coordinating post-award processes.
·Assists Scientific Program Manager with outreach and publicity.
·Prepares and updates MSI's financial and administrative records. This includes: processing reimbursements and payments, ordering office supplies, marketing materials, and photocopies for programs.
·Updates the website and office calendar regularly with MSI news and information, using Open Scholar. Monitors the MSI@harvard.edu mailbox to answer questions or forward them to the Scientific Program Manager or faculty Directors, as appropriate.
·Other administrative duties as required.
*This position is 17.5 hours per week.
