    Job Description

TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE, McGovern Institute for Brain Research, to work in the laboratory of Dr. Mehrdad Jazayeri. JazLab (https://jazlab.org/) conducts multidisciplinary research on the neural basis of cognition in humans and animal models, spanning the fields of systems, computational, and cognitive neuroscience; and uses cutting-edge brain recording/perturbation tools to study neural activity as animals perform complex tasks. Responsibilities include performing animal-related functions such as animal care, behavioral training and testing, pre- and post-operative care, monitoring anesthesia, conducting MRIs, and assisting with surgeries; wet-lab related functions such as preparing for and leading lab inspections, enforcing environmental health and safety, purchasing chemical/biological materials, sterilizing supplies, and maintaining equipment; and management/administrative functions such as developing standardized protocols, onboarding personnel, scheduling, organizing events, arranging guest visits, managing finances, processing reimbursements, proofing grants/manuscripts, handling mail, and liaising with various departments on campus. Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor's degree in a science-related field; two years of relevant laboratory experience; comfort working with animals; strong organizational, problem-solving, communication, and time-management skills; and self-motivation. Must be able to perform enlisted functions with little help after an initial learning and adaptation period and juggle the dynamic events that occur in a fast-paced interdisciplinary research environment.
