Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required (3-5 years)
Experience with theme design in WordPress and/or Drupal
3-5 years of experience conducting contextual inquiry, interviews, and usability/accessibility studies
Strong understanding and use of digital accessibility best practices, to ensure compliance with the Harvard University Digital Accessibility Policy (https://accessibility.huit.harvard.edu/digital-accessibility-policy)
Experience with Design Thinking and Service Design
Strong experience with current research and design tools and methodologies (e.g., Figma, Balsamiq, Optimal Workshop, Qualtrics)
A strong understanding of web technologies and web content management tools (preferably Drupal and WordPress)
Excellent attention to detail; conceptual, analytical and imaginative thinker
Experience working in a Higher Education environment
Experience navigating projects with multiple stakeholders
Familiarity with working with project management methodologies, Agile preferred
Enthusiasm, interest, and flexibility in acquiring new or emerging technology skills
Able to work within deadlines, ensuring timely, cost-effective delivery and customer satisfaction
Effective meeting facilitation and presentation skills
Excellent written, interpersonal and communication skills
Able to adapt in a fast-changing environment
A general understanding of social tools and traffic analytics (preferably Google Analytics)

Harvard Web Publishing, part of the Academic Technology group within Harvard University Information Technology (HUIT), is seeking a UX Designer/Researcher to support the delivery of user experience services. This position delivers customer service of the highest caliber and has the capacity to function in a highly changing, fast-paced environment.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
UX Research (60%, approximately)
Leads generative and/or evaluative research on multiple aspects of products, services, and experiences
Collects and analyzes user behavior through various methods - e.g., lab and informal studies, contextual inquiry, benchmark studies, analytics, and prototype testing
Understands and incorporates technical and business requirements into research, balancing the goals of the users with those of the stakeholders and the University
Synthesizes findings and provides actionable recommendations to diverse audiences through reports and presentations
Uses best practices for research, including method selection, inclusion in recruiting, and problem articulation
UX Design (40%, approximately)
Exhibits strong understanding of accessibility best practices in all phases of design
Works with project managers on wireframing, mockups, prototypes, and CSS for front-end design in WordPress and Drupal
Uses established standards and best practices for employing visual design principles
Works as part of a team or as an individual, for a wide range of university clients
Has exceptional listening skills, and provides thorough, friendly, and prompt communication with partners, clients, vendors, and team members
Provides prompt direct support to clients, including email, phone, and in-person support
Diagnoses issues with tools and services and escalates to both internal and external support services as appropriate
Training & Knowledge Management
Delivers workshops, ad-hoc training, tutorials, and training materials
Collaborates with internal team members to facilitate internal knowledge sharing, capacity building, and distribution of expertise
