Job Summary
The Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) performs regular and routine monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance of corporate enterprise Oracle databases. Oracle DBAs are responsible for daily operations and support of multiple production, development, and testing environments, relying on Oracle Database technology. Typical tasks include: participation in on-call rotation, monitoring, user requests, advising on database technology, issue resolution, backup/recovery, reviewing database and related technology changes and supporting business and technical projects. The DBA collaborates with cross-functional teams to operationally administer new and existing databases and related components in support of critical enterprise applications and business functions.The DBA interacts with a team of technology and business professionals including infrastructure, application development, quality management, data security, architecture and IT vendors. The working environment is fast-paced and a DBA must be able to maintain key responsibilities while adapting to changing requirements and healthcare regulations. Using good judgment, the DBA must perform all essential job functions on a consistent and regular basis, with limited supervision.
Key Responsibilities/Duties – what you will be doing
Install, configure, maintain database software access
Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues
Database monitoring – Operational status; system, database and process performance
User security and management – access control levels, password resets, account unlocks
Monitor, allocate, and optimize data storage for database systems
Database software maintenance – plan and coordinate software patches, updates, and upgrades
Review and approve physical models for new database development
Understand needs, requirements, and provide support for application and repository databases
Database technology programming and debugging
Track, report, and trend database infrastructure metrics
Develop and enforce strict adherence to database change control and testing procedures
Support internal and external audits
Design, plan, implement and support database High Availability and Disaster Recovery and related testing
Design, plan and implement processes and procedures that facilitate best practices for database use
Provide guidance to junior members of the Database Services team
Status reporting and other ancillary administrative activities
Qualifications – what you need to perform the job
3+ years of experience as an Oracle DBA supporting complex and critical IT environments
Additional qualifications for this position:
Experience as an Oracle DBA supporting Oracle Database versions 19c and higher in a mission-critical environment
Experience as an Oracle DBA supporting Oracle RAC and Oracle Dataguard
Experience with Oracle e-Business or Oracle Applications support as a DBA is an advantage, but not required
Experience of participation in a 24x7 on-call rotation for Oracle database support
Excellent oral and written communication.
A strong team-work ethic and a we-can-do attitude
Ability to discuss technical information in a way that establishes rapport, persuades others, and gains understanding
Ability and willingness to share lessons-learned with other DBA team members
Experience with database performance analysis and troubleshooting
Experience with analysis of long running SQL and providing recommendations for resolution
Ability to advise members of our partner teams on database technology best practices
Ability to capture and analyze requirements and develop solutions that meet those requirements
Ability to adapt to rapidly changing business and technology environments.
Ability to create and maintain procedural and systemic documentation.
Interest in maintaining technical education and improving working knowledge of the enterprise database application environment.
