State of Massachusetts Janitor IV - SUPERVISOR in Chelsea, Massachusetts

The Chelsea Soldiers Home is seeking a Janitorial Supervisor to coordinate activities of the assigned unit to ensure effective operations and compliance with established standards. The Supervisor will ensure that the buildings are in a clean and orderly condition, and the campus grounds are well-maintained. _Working conditions:_ Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, lift, and carry heavy objects, work indoors, or work outdoors in all types of weather, work under exposure to the hazards. _Emergency:_ This position has been deemed as an Emergency personnel position. During a declared State of Emergency and in Non-Emergency situations/adverse weather, it will be necessary for you to report to work. _Schedule:_ 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM with Tuesday and Wednesday off _Duties and Responsibilities (These are a general summary and are not inclusive):_ * Prepare reports and maintain records to provide information concerning assigned unit activities. * Coordinate, supervise and perform outside duties such as washing windows, sweeping walks, shoveling snow, picking up trash, preparing grounds by putting in gravel, etc. * Determine the need for and recommend the purchase of maintenance and custodial equipment. * Ensure buildings are clean and in orderly condition by performing a combination of activities including cleaning assigned areas and making minor repairs to buildings using hand tools. * Perform pest control duties and operates with and under an Integrated Pest Management Program (I.P.M). * Clean interior surfaces such as walls, ceiling, ceiling fans, fans, windows, furniture, shower chairs, shower trolleys, walkers, vents, etc. by dusting, polishing, and washing using appropriate supplies and equipment. * Clean toilets, lavatories, utility rooms, laundry rooms, patient rooms, dining rooms, elevators, offices, conference rooms, janitor closets, storage closets, etc. using appropriate supplies and equipment. * Empty, clean and reline waste receptacles and transport waste to approved storage areas. * Empty recycle bins, and transport recyclables to storage areas. * Transport soiled linen to soiled linen holding area. * Clean patient beds, side tables, over bed tables, Geri-chairs, wheelchairs, fans, etc. using appropriate supplies and equipment to maintain appearance, cleanliness, and sanitation of such items. * Remove and re-hang window draperies and bedside curtains as required. * Move and set-up furniture to prepare rooms, offices, and special functions. * Monitor the effectiveness of contracted pest control services to determine compliance with contractual requirements. * Operate freight elevators to pick up and deliver clothing, laundry, equipment etc. * Maintain grounds and buildings by cutting grass, raking leaves, weeding, and thinning flower beds or gardens etc. * Perform related duties such as loading or unloading equipment and supplies from vehicles, setting up furniture in rooms for special functions or meetings, assembling furniture such as beds, desks, and cabinets. * Strip, refinish, and buff floors. * Shampoo carpets and furniture. * Load/unload; receive/distribute goods/supplies throughout facility. * Clean and maintain cleanliness and appearance of all floors throughout facility. * Move and/or set-up patient areas/offices and other areas throughout facility. * Perform pest management and control functions. * Perform pesticide and insecticide application duties. _Preferred Qualifications:_ Experience working in a healthcare facility. _TOTAL COMPENSATION:_ As an employee of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts you are offered a great career opportunity influencing a wide-spectrum of services to the diverse populations we serve - but it is more than a paycheck.
