Administrative Officer

Mary E. Walsh Center for Thriving Children

Lynch School of Education and Human Development

The Mary E. Walsh Center for Thriving Children (CTC) at Boston College studies the most effective ways

to address the out-of-school factors impacting student learning and thriving, especially in high-poverty

urban schools. Its flagship practice, City Connects, is implemented in over 180 schools in five U.S. states

and in Dublin, Ireland. CTC is seeking an experienced Administrative Officer for a position of central

importance to its work. The position supports the Center, research, implementation, and public

relations efforts, and in particular provides high-level support for the Executive Director and staff. This

support requires not only responsiveness to the dynamic needs of the Center's evolving work, but also a

high level of initiative, responsibility, and capacity for judgment.

The position involves three core areas of responsibility: (1) operational management (managing day-to-

day scheduling, space, materials, travel, and logistics; planning events and meetings; managing key

recruitment activities such as scheduling and communications using a hiring management software

system; human resources and use of PeopleSoft); (2) information management (entering and retrieving

information; synthesizing information and drafting documents; anticipating needs for information flow;

documenting processes; managing electronic and paper files); (3) external relations (serving as primary

contact for the CTC and City Connects; serving as a liaison to external partners, advisors, vendors, BC

offices, and others).

Requirements

● Bachelor’s degree or higher

● Experience in professional-level project administration and coordination, preferably in a

University or research setting

● Ability to deal with multiple constituencies, within and outside of the university, with tact and

diplomacy

● Ability to take initiative, multitask, and prioritize work

● Ability to work independently and as part of a team

● Strategic thinker with attention to detail

● Ability to meet deadlines

● Strong written and oral communication skills

● Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint

● Experience with Peoplesoft Financials and HR

● High level of professionalism and discretion

● Sound judgment and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
