City of Chicopee Fire Department Motor Equipment Repairman Position Title: Motor Equipment Repairman Department: Chicopee Fire Department Employment Status: Non-Exempt; Full-Time Salary: UFCW Laborer\'s Union, Grade 11L, Step 05 \| Starting at \$25.14 per hour Licenses/Certifications: MA Class B CDL SUMMARY The City of Chicopee\'s Fire Department is hiring a Motor Equipment Repairman. Under supervision from the General Foreman, maintains, repairs, troubleshoots, inspects, rebuilds, and overhauls all gas powered or diesel vehicles and/or equipment and any other service as directed by the Fire Chief or his designee. Repairs and maintains Fire Department equipment, including fire pumpers, ladder trucks, ladder tower trucks, ambulances, hydraulic equipment (Jaws of Life) and other assorted Fire Department equipment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE \| Performs skilled repair and maintenance of motor equipment; inspects and troubleshoots gasoline and diesel internal combustion engine powered equipment; does tune-ups; repairs electrical systems; adjusts brakes and clutches; adjusts, replaces, or rebuilds carburetors, conducts front end work. \| Performs hammering, sanding, grinding, soldering, light fabricating. \| Performs repairs, installation and maintenance of electrical systems, ignition systems, starters, coils, instruments, wiring, generators, alternators, and voltage regulators. \| Performs scheduled maintenance for all department motorized vehicles ( aerial ladders, pumpers, ambulances, trucks, boats, and automobiles), hand lights, repairs small hand tools. \| Obtains, maintains, and updates all individual job relevant certifications as required by the Fire Chief within one year. \| Maintains, tests, repairs, overhauls, and modifies power station mechanical equipment or similar equipment such as turbines, pumps, compressors, engines, valves, and auxiliary equipment. \| Other duties as assigned per the full job description. QUALIFICATIONS To be minimally qualified for this position, one must meet the following criteria: \| High School Diploma or Equivalent. \| Two years of experience or formal schooling/trade school repairing, maintaining, and overhauling heavy equipment and motor equipment including electrical and hydraulic systems. \| Experience with use of all tools and equipment associated with medium to heavy truck repair. \| Must have entry level, basic set of tools to perform this job effectively. \| Must have a strong work ethic. \| Must have the ability to use and understand the properties of a full function diagnostic scanner. This is to include all computers and electronics in vehicles, regarding engine, transmission, emissions, and ABS brakes. \| Working knowledge of tools, equipment and materials used for servicing and repairing fire department vehicles and equipment; ability to identify parts and prioritize repairs. \| Ability to work effectively under pressure. \| Ability to interpret vehicle and equipment specifications. \| Ability to assign and organize work to staff. \| Ability to report findings and communicate effectively, administrative abilities. \| Ability to work independently. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS \| Massachusetts Class B CDL Driver\'s License is required, Class A preferred. \| ASE Medium/Heavy Truck preferred/obtained within (1) one year. SCHEDULE, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS This is a Full \| Time, 40 hours/week position, with a schedule of 7:00 AM \| 4:00 PM, Monday \| Friday, with required flexibility for on-call and emergency situations. This role is classified in the UFCW Laborer\"s Union, Grade 11L, starting at Step 05,with a minimum starting pay of \$25.14 per hour + Licenses (if applicable), with periodic step and pay increases upon continuous completion of employment with the City of Chicopee.
