Emerson Hospital Per Diem Child Life Specialist - Pedi Intervention Team in Concord, Massachusetts
Job Summary
Reporting to the P.I.T. Coordinator and the Nursing Director of Obstetrics, responsible to provide psycho-social, emotional support, pre-operative, pre-procedural teaching, therapeutic play and diversion activities to all children 20 years of age and younger who receive care and/or treatment in the hospital. These areas include: the Emergency Room, Surgical Day Care (including the operating room and recovery room), Imaging Services, Laboratory, Neurology, etc.)
Minimum Qualifications
· Education
o Bachelor’s degree required in a child related Human Service Profession or equivalent, preferably in Child Life.
o Master’s degree preferred
· Experience
o Minimum two years work experience with children and families in a medical or educational setting required.
· Licensure and/or Certification
o Child Life certification strongly preferred
· Skills
o Must have a sound theoretical understanding of child development, of stress of illness, injury and
o hospitalization on children and families, and of the validity, necessity and therapeutic value of play in a child’s life.
o Must have the ability to read, write and communicate in English.
o Computer skills.
o Ability to maintain confidential information.
o Excellent customer service skills required.
