State of Massachusetts Sewage Treatment Plant Op II - Concord in Concord, Massachusetts

Shift: 6AM - 2PM one weekend day Operates sewage treatment plant equipment in a manner that ensures adequate treatment of wastewater in accordance with NPDES permit and other DEP/EPA requirements; Maintains equipment by performing minor repairs and routine maintenance as required and directed; Performs sample collection and laboratory analysis as needed to maintain excellent process control and for required NPDES permit testing; Maintains records related to operations based on observations, inspections, and laboratory testing results; Assists in the preparation of monthly reports as directed; Performs housekeeping duties including painting, grounds keeping, sweeping, mopping, shoveling, and raking as needed; Assists in maintaining building interiors and exteriors; Must be able and willing to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and be able to lift 50 lbs.; Performs other duties as assigned. Preferred Requirement: Applicants must possess a current and valid license issued by the Massachusetts Board of Certification of Operators of Wastewater Treatment Facilities with a minimum grade of IV-M. Comments: Please note that salaries for union positions are determined according to the provisions of the respective collective bargaining agreement. The DOC urges bilingual applicants to apply. The Massachusetts Department of Correction shall not hire anyone who may have direct contact with offenders, who has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison or other institution as defined in 42 U.S.C. 1997; or has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse, or has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in the above paragraph. The agency shall consider any incidents of sexual harassment in determining whether to hire anyone who may have contact with offenders or residents. First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days. Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in the operation, maintenance and /or repair or mechanical, electrical and related equipment in a water or sewage treatment plant, stationary power plant or pumping station, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. Substitutions: I. A certificate of completion of a program in waste water treatment from a recognized school above the high school level may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.* Education toward a certificate will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
