The Buyer/Planner will lead and support the development, implementation, and management of global strategies to provide Abiomed’s Supply Chain organization with optimal pricing, flexibility, quality, and delivery performance, as well as supply assurance, with an overall focus on maintaining long term supplier relationships and managing total costs.

In this exciting and fast-paced role, the Buyer/Planner will conduct various activities involving planning and procuring parts, components, equipment, and suppliers to ensure continuous and uninterrupted flow of materials to Production, Field Service, and R&D projects consistent with Abiomed policies.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan purchases for assigned products, projects, and commodities and negotiate and implement appropriate buying methods preferably Kanban. Develop Purchase Requisition per procedural requirements and Product Specifications, issue purchase orders, confirm deliveries, and expedite deliveries as required. Request bids from suppliers as needed

  • Maintain, monitor, and enhance the internal Kanban system to continuously meet production requirements. Use various tools like MRP to make sure appropriate inventory levels are maintained. Maintain and publish accurate tracking systems to keep all stakeholders informed of any potential disruptions in the supply chain.

  • Working closely with Supplier Engineers, develop alliances with Abiomed suppliers to manage supplier performance, and develop plans to alleviate any supply chain risks.

  • Assist Supplier Engineers to identify and qualify suppliers and negotiate the best price for products/services

  • Input purchasing data into SAP for the assigned commodity and ensure that all required procurement data fields are correct and up to date in SPA

  • Resolve invoicing and receiving issues with suppliers

  • Provide forecasts to suppliers on quarterly basis using MRP and Abiomed business plans

  • Actively participate in MRB and ensure timely disposition of rejected material from supplier and assist SE/Engineering/Mfg. Engineering/Quality on corrective action and recovery plan.

  • Establish standard cost for purchased items and maintain the standard cost files.

  • Using market knowledge to mitigate obsolescence risks; proactively seek information to predict, understand, and analyze obsolescence risks and develop appropriate strategies.

  • Help with other activities as needed to support production and the team.

Qualifications

  • 3 or more years of work experience in purchasing, materials planning and supply chain management. Medical device experience preferred

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. SAP experience is preferred

  • Very strong communication skills to influence external and internal suppliers and customers to minimize and eliminate all supply chain risks

  • Good problem-solving skills to resolve planning and procurement as well as supplier issues

  • Knowledge of LEAN, six sigma, kaizen, and continuous improvement initiatives. Green Belt a plus

  • Must be able to adapt to changing priorities and tasks and demonstrate flexibility in a changing business environment. Models a positive can-do attitude and is cooperative both within their function and company-wide

  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment and dedication to the organization on a consistent basis

  • Willing to travel as needed

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $91,000 to $147,200. The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/ performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.

  • Vacation – up to 120 hours per calendar year

  • Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington – up to 56 hours per calendar year

  • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays – up to 13 days per calendar year

  • Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
