The Director of Program Management will be a strategic program leader for large, complex, multi-year programs within the BMS Global Product Development and Supply (GPS) organization, which encompasses internal and external manufacturing, quality, supply chain, product development, engineering and facilities, and strategy and business excellence. Responsible for the comprehensive planning and optimal execution of strategic programs, ensuring alignment, cooperation, and communication across GPS functions. As a key member of the central GPS Program Management office, this position will be responsible for staff management, resource allocation and alignment with strategic priorities. Key contributor to the development of behaviors and practices that foster a culture of accountability, agility, and inclusion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead complex, strategic GPS programs that are cross-functional and can include managing a portfolio of related projects to ensure coordinated execution.

  • Maintain strategic alignment for programs across matrixed organization

  • Creates and executes change management strategy, both within specific programs and across broader GPS initiatives.

  • Assist to define programs required to deploy GPS strategy across the organization

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with GPS operational and functional leadership

  • Drive implementation of project management best practices, consistency, and continuous improvement throughout GPS organization

  • Fosters creation of diverse/inclusive high performing teams and maintains strong relationship with team members and key stakeholders, including executive program sponsors, functional leadership and Strategy and Business Operations leads.

  • Provide leadership and direction to program/project managers. Coordinate interactions, ensure timely and optimal execution of projects, and effective collaboration with key stakeholder.

  • Reviews resource needs based on input from strategic portfolio planning processes to provide support for strategic programs/projects and key department initiatives

  • Lead stakeholder engagement within GPS and across the broader BMS organization

Professional experience and qualifications:

  • 10-12 years experience, including 5-7 years in roles with increasing leadership responsibility across major projects and programs

  • Direct experience leading complex, multi-functional programs in a pharmaceutical or a related regulated industry. Experience with manufacturing sites and/or in a GxP regulated space a plus

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific related discipline required. MBA or advanced scientific degree preferred

  • PMP certification or equivalent experience required

  • Must possess a strategic perspective, leading vision and values, and leadership disposition

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, demonstrate initiative, bring a solutions-orientated mindset to issues and work effectively in a complex, rapidly changing environment

  • Demonstrated ability to interact internally and externally with executive level management, including negotiation of potentially difficult and sensitive matters, to influence policy

  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results and exercise influence across a global matrix organization (e.g., operations, manufacturing technology, quality, supply chain, finance, R&D)

  • Demonstrated ability to positively and effectively communicate and in a variety of complex circumstances. Must have experience delivering complex messages to various internal and external stakeholders

  • Strong analytical skills, well organized and capable of managing multiple stakeholders, priorities, and programs

  • Ability to exercise discretion, discernment and to be comfortable to operate when erroneous decisions will have serious impact on the overall success of operations

  • Must possess strong verbal and communication skills, and a well–developed ability to constructively work across functional areas and levels to achieve results

  • Proven track record of developing talent and effective people management including coaching, motivating and development planning in a multicultural environment

  • Possess a deep understanding of the talent and skill sets required to sustain innovation and long-term growth within a technical organizational

  • Proficiency with financial principles, core business concepts, and business and operations management

  • Proficiency in developing presentations to facilitate meaningful discussions, with clearly communicated analysis, findings, and impact

  • Proficiency with project management and Microsoft tools, e.g. Project, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint.

Management Responsibility:

May supervise Associate Director, Senior Project Manager, Project Manager, and/or leased worker.
