Responsibilities

The Kroc Culinary Arts Program Manager participates in the selection of appropriate students for the program and communicates students’ progress to other individuals / organizations that support the students during the job training and search periods. The Kroc Culinary Arts Program Manager acts as a 'good will ambassador' for the program and promotes it in the community through a variety of out-reach activities, including public appearances and media interaction.

This position is central to the implementation of The Kroc Center Culinary Adult Vocational Job Training Program (KCA), and includes instructing, providing ServSafe training and coordinating any additional educational opportunities for the program enrollees, such as a guest chef program and field trips to restaurant kitchens and community farms.

Essential Job Functions

  • Develop the curriculum for the vocational job training program.

  • Provide in-class instruction, act as executive chef for the kitchen training program.

  • Develop and administer written and practical tests based on the curriculum, devise grading system for each module.

  • Assess students' ability to comprehend, perform and retain practical techniques, report students' progress in regular meetings with the Kroc Center Salvation Army administration.

  • Schedule and give direct supervision to the Life Skill’s Coach. This includes but is not limited to performance management, time management (ADP) and training.

  • Provide consulting services to the Food Service Manager as requested by Kroc Administrator

  • Support efforts to develop funds for program

    ServSafe Sanitation Course Instruction

  • Teach the ServSafe curricula and maintain industry standards over the 10-week program.

  • Evaluate each student’s ability to comprehend, perform and retain information.

  • Integrate sanitation classroom learning into hands-on practice.

  • Proctor quizzes and retest students when needed.

  • Work with students on an individual basis to assure that students can attain Servsafe certification.

    Community Building/Guest Chef Program Coordination

  • Reach out to chefs in the Boston community to engage them in the program and as potential employers for program graduates.

  • Conduct follow ‐ up with the students following a guest chef lesson.

  • Help to identify special community projects that promote class training and experiential learning.

  • Invite specific chefs to participate in themed events.

  • Collaborate with the Kroc Center Salvation Army administration to identify chefs to be judges and special guests at various program/Center events.

  • Provide the coordination needed for the pre ‐ ordering, set ‐ up and clean ‐ up assistance needed by visiting chefs.

    Culinary Field Trip Coordination

  • Network with chefs and foodservice professionals and community-based farmers to secure fieldtrip opportunities.

  • Make arrangements for transportation and escort students.

  • Conduct follow ‐ up with the students following field trips.

    Recruitment & Trainee Services

  • Participate in the recruitment of candidates for the program.

  • Conduct interviews of potential students

  • Select final candidates based on availability and goals of the program

  • Participate with other individuals/organizations to identify and supply the supporting services needed by KCA program enrollees to successfully complete the training.

    Workforce Development Support

  • Assist KCA program enrollees with job placement.

  • Assist KCA in developing internship sites, culinary chef mentors and employment partnerships prior to and during job search.

  • Coordinate with KCA site visits to potential employer ‐ partners to engage site chefs in culinary training activities as well as employment information forums.

Qualifications

Associate’s degree in culinary arts, minimum requirement

  • A high degree of ability to relay vocational training information in a manner that provides a positive learning experience and instills a passion for the profession

  • Ability to demonstrate concern and sensitivity toward trainees and their individual needs and learning styles while still providing consistent education for all students

  • Servsafe Instructor and Proctor, preferred

    • Minimum 5 years of relevant industry experience at a chef level or higher with related management experience
  • Minimum 5 years teaching culinary arts
