    Pay Range :

    The main function of the Education Manager is accountability for the academic, social-emotional growth and development of all children in the After-School, Summer Camp, and Enrichment Programs. Additionally, assuring compliance with codes of all State and local governing contract agencies. The development and day-to-day operations of the education center, after school educational programs, enrichment programs, and classroom facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule, direct, and guide all public, private, and in-house activities within the Education department, including homework assistance, academic enrichment, tutoring, athletics and art and music activities.

  • Design programs; Philosophy, development of policies, procedures and evaluation of after-school/day camp by representing the Salvation Army’s spiritual ministry and social mission.

  • Develop and implement education programs that meet the demonstrated needs of the community and fit within the scope (budget) and strategy of education program goals. Ensure that instructors within the education department maintain appropriate certification by the appropriate certifying body.

  • Assure staff and families are surveyed on an annual basis in order to evaluate the programs and develop an improvement plan.

  • Schedule, direct, and guide all programming, including Kidspace & Club 7-12.

  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and management team meetings

  • Supervise and oversee the day-to-day operations of the after-school program and the summer day camp program; schedule, direct, and guide all public, private, and in-house activities within the Education Department and Enrichment Program.

  • Conduct interviews recommend for hire all Education staff positions.

  • Must complete Day Camp Staff Orientation.

  • Develop and implement education programs that meet the demonstrated needs of the community and fit within the scope (budget) and strategy of education program goals.

  • Establish working objectives for volunteers that will assist in the education area. Work closely with the Sales Manager and Volunteer Coordinator on the scheduling and specific duties for volunteers.

  • Supply information as required for grant proposals including statistics, program narratives and other pertinent information.

  • Ensure and document that standards are met according to grants received and other forms of collaborative partnership according to signed agreements and/or contracts.

  • Work cooperatively with the Program Director and community groups to develop mutually beneficial education programming consistent with the standards for collaborative partnerships and overall strategy of The Salvation Army Boston Kroc program.

  • Collaborate with other departments in conducting lectures, clinics and workshops that will further the educational goals of The Salvation Army Boston Kroc.

  • Ensure an adequate reserve of program supplies; conduct regular inventory of all equipment and supplies.

  • Ensure customer service standards are met; improved upon issues that arise with direct follow-up with unsatisfied members and/or guests.

  • Ensure daily reports, participation statistics, bi-weekly payroll reports, financial transactions, lost and found items, annual reports, budget and annual area goals and objectives are reviewed and completed according to agreed upon timeline.

  • Assist in the writing and maintaining of job descriptions as required.

  • Provide input and budget projections to The Salvation Army Kroc Center Administrator and Accounting Manager relative to budget needs and budget preparation for the education department.

  • Recruit, train, schedule, evaluate and directly supervise Education and Enrichment staff.

  • Assume Manager on Duty (MOD) responsibilities when scheduled.

  • Develop relationship with families and community to promote programs and fill open slots.

  • Work in cooperation with Human Resources to process all personnel hire, status changes, termination, and evaluations promptly.

  • Maintain clear channels of communication with staff, volunteers and program participants. This will include the writing of internal memos, schedules, flyers, website & social networking content, newsletters and one-on-one discussions.

  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a field related to education, Master’s degree preferred

  • Work Experience

  • Must have two to four years of progressive leadership experience in education. Classroom teaching and/or educational administration experience is preferred.

  • Must have at least two years of experience in developing, planning, managing and supervising education programs

  • Must have at least two years of experience developing and administering budgets for education programs.

  • Have a philosophy of education and child development, which is consistent with that of The Salvation Army Boston Kroc.

  • The ability to supervise a professional staff consisting of individuals with varying experience, competency and cultural backgrounds.

  • Must have the ability to conduct workshops on a variety of education related topics.

  • Must have or acquire within the first 30 days of employment a First Aid & CPR certification.

  • Have excellent computer skills and competency with software such as Microsoft Office Applications and/or appropriate desktop applications and hardware such as computers, printers, projectors and smart boards.

  • High level of confidentiality, discretion and judgment.

  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.

  • Must be able to lift and carry 40 lbs.

  • Must be willing to work evening and some weekends as required.
