The Department of Surgery's outpatient clinic practice is a fast-paced, multi-specialty service located at our Somerville Hospital site, providing comprehensive pre and post-surgical care to patients of the Cambridge Health Alliance in an ambulatory clinic setting. The department provides specialized surgical care which includes but not limited to; general surgery, vascular surgery, podiatry, urology, plastic, otolaryngology, allergy, and thoracic services.

Job Purpose: The candidate will be responsible for Scheduling and registering patients, booking surgery for extremely busy physicians and manage their schedules. Manage a call schedule for the General Surgery Department. Provides a wide range of administrative and support functions for the department.

Duties/Responsibilities: Performs secretarial duties in the preparation of departmental correspondence, billing, reimbursement and records. Demonstrating excellent clerical, interpersonal, organizational and writing skills. Troubleshoots all office equipment failures utilizing approved process. Recognizes patient related issues and passes on accurate information to appropriate personnel. Composes, types, files and maintains records of correspondence, reports, agendas, and minutes of meetings as assigned in an accurate, neat, and timely manner. Enters all requisitions into the computer for departmental services needed. Places orders for office supplies and forms via the computer. Edits changes in scheduled procedures if applicable. Resolves scheduling conflicts with charge nurse as necessary if applicable. Communicates with Business Manager on any issues associated with supplies that impact the surgical schedules. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

Qualifications/Requirements: Previous surgery experience. BS Degree preferred, An Associate's degree required. Minimum 3-year administrative experience in a medical setting. Advanced computer training required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office required. EPIC and database expertise preferred.
