Town of Falmouth Receptionist in Falmouth, Massachusetts

The Town of Falmouth is currently accepting applications for a Front Desk Receptionist at the Recreation Department. Responsibilities include: serving as an information clerk, greeting and directing visitors and giving routine information both in person and on the phone. High school graduation and two years? experience in general office work, customer service-related function or equivalent combination of education and experience. Position is for 19.5/hours per week; schedule is 5pm-9pm, Monday through Friday and/or occasional Saturdays. Starting pay is $19.16-$19.93/hour. depending on experience. Job Responsibilities Serves as information clerk, greeting and directing visitors and giving routine information. Operates multi-line telephone; transfers calls to appropriate parties; answers questions from the public concerning functions of the Recreation Department; makes referrals to town departments or officials. Advises callers of unavailability of personnel when necessary. Assists callers in finding telephone numbers for town offices outside of the Recreation Department when necessary. Operates copier/scanner/fax. Retrieves registration information on the computer and checks meeting room availability and all other duties as assigned. Recommended Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience - High school graduation and two years? experience in general office work, customer service-related function; or equivalent combination of education or experience. Knowledge - Working knowledge of general reception duties. Working knowledge of Recreation Department operations and functions. Ability - Ability to deal tactfully and appropriately with the general public and town departments in an effective manner Skill - Skill in operation of multi-line phone, copier, scanner, fax machine, and basic computer applications. Physical Requirements Minimal physical effort required; Ability to operate a keyboard at efficient speed; ability to operate a switchboard, ability to respond to audible indicator; ability to sit, stand, speak and hear and light physical effort in carrying or moving file materials (up to 20 lbs.). Additional Information Definition: Front desk receptionist work in assisting the general public; all other related work as required Distinguishing Characteristics: Works under the general supervision of the Recreation Director, following department rules, regulations and policies, requiring the ability to perform operations and independently complete assigned tasks. Performs a variety of routine duties which are well defined but which may require the choice of alternative approaches or minor decision-making. Makes constant contact with general public and employees; communication is in person and by means of telephone and e-mail requiring excellent customer service skills.
