Fitchburg State University *** Assistant Professor, Political Science - in Fitchburg, Massachusetts
The School of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track position in Political Science at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in Fall 2025. Applicants must possess a strong desire to teach in a department and institution that emphasizes excellent teaching and the continuation of scholarship that involves engaging and collaborating with undergraduate students. Responsibilities include a teaching load of 4/4 per semester, student advising, continuing scholarship, and service to the University community. Additional requirements as per the MSCA contract. Commitment to excellence in teaching, especially traditionally underrepresented and first-generation students, demonstrated teaching experience appropriate to the level of appointment, and evidence of scholarly/creative activity. Requirements: Ph.D. in Political Science. ABD will be considered with an anticipated degree completion date of June 30, 2025. A track record of teaching excellence as evidenced by student evaluations. Ability to work effectively with a diverse student body. Preferred: Prior undergraduate teaching experience is preferred, especially in concert with the ability and willingness to teach a wide array of subjects in American Government. The area of specialization within the American Government is open, with the exception of constitutional law. Research that involves engaging and collaborating with students and evidence of interest and success in mentoring underrepresented minority students is desired. Salary commensurate with qualifications, and experience and in accordance with the MSCA Bargaining Agreement. There are opportunities to teach summer, winter term, online, and undergraduate and graduate courses. Must be able to satisfactorily pass a check conducted by the Criminal History Systems Board (CORI) as well as a completed background check satisfactory to the university.
