GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:Manage a comprehensive alumni relations program and implement strategies for events and programming that will engage alumni in the life of the University. Work closely with elected alumni association board of directors to create and execute annual plan and further the mission of the association. Collaborate with students, administrators, faculty, vendors, etc. to ensure that the needs of alumni in every generation are met. Responsibilities will include managing social media, the online community and working with alumni committees, as well as planning and executing programming and events for alumni, families and donors.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead the strategic vision and planning for building a best practices-oriented alumni engagement program designed to serve as a pipeline for future philanthropic support.
Plan, manage, and annually evaluate a broad range of exciting initiatives and programs; coordinates the FSU’s Gold Key, Alumni Reunions and Awards Ceremonies and Athletics Hall of Fame events.
Oversee stewardship efforts designed to foster ongoing support of the campus (e.g. scholarship luncheons, student/donor communication).
Serve as liaison to the FSU Alumni Association Board. Identify, recommend, and recruit Alumni Association board members. Works closely with the Association president to ensure meaningful involvement of Association leaders each year.
Coordinate regional Alumni events in key geographic areas (e.g. Boston, Cape Cod, Florida, DC and NYC) support hosts, and recruit VIP guests.
Work closely with campus partners, Career Services, Student Affairs, Athletics, Academic Affairs, andCorporate, Foundations and Government Grant Relations to build significant pathways for alumni and donor participation.
Collaborate with the Leading for Change Committee, the Center for Diversity and Inclusiveness, and Career and Academic Advising Center to launch and facilitate a new mentor program for BIPOC students and alumni. This includes recruiting, on-boarding, training, and managing the volunteers as well as building and maintaining the related volunteer database.
Plan and manage, in conjunction with the offices of Student Development and Events planning the Alumni Homecoming and Family Weekend.
Develop programming to inspire attendance at events and reunions. Recruit and manage reunion leaders, and coordinate awards, alumni networking and student job shadowing, regional events.
Compile and produce alumni publications. Ensure that the FSU website and social media (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) channels are populated with inspiring content and are coordinated in keeping with campus-wide standards and strategies. Serve as a major contributor to the FSU Contact magazine.
Responsible for contributing to the university’s strategic plan.
Track alumni career and contact information. Ensure timely updates in Raiser’s Edge database.
Recommend and manage related budgets.

Commitment to Fitchburg State University’s mission and vision
Master’s degree preferred, Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of five years of management/leadership responsibilities in alumni relations or development, preferably in independent schools or higher education. Relevant career experience in community relations, customer relations, or volunteer and event management in other industries will be considered.
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. Detail-oriented and able to work collaboratively. Excellent organizational skills.
Experience planning and hosting events
Ability to work independently, take initiative, read group dynamics and adapt to changing situations and work in a fast paced ever evolving environment, remain flexible.
Comfort with communication via telephone, email and with virtual meetings and events
Highest ethical and professional standards. Must be interested in and passionate about the history and traditions of Fitchburg State University. Comfortable working with a multi-generational and diverse constituency
Strong knowledge of MS Office programs, relational databases, preferable Raiser’s Edge as well as social media (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn), and other content management technology
This position requires working evening hours, some weekends
Occasional travel required to host alumni events
Ability to perform above duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
Must be able to satisfactorily pass a check conducted by the Criminal History Systems Board (CORI) as well as a completed background check satisfactory to the university
