Lead Distribution Designer

Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities:

POWER Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Lead Distribution Designer for the Power Delivery Distribution Department in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The qualified candidate will have experience with common utility standards, the ability to use common industry design software packages and general construction knowledge and aptitude. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for performing designs on both overhead and underground distribution systems (4 kV to 35 kV)

  • Performing calculations, interpreting codes and standards, creating construction packages, and performing quality control reviews

  • Working both independently and within a team framework

  • Dealing directly with clients

  • Leading teams of engineers, designers, field personnel, and drafters to complete projects

  • Some travel should be expected

Required Education/Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in the design and operation of overhead and underground distribution lines (4 kV through 35 kV)

  • Familiarity with distribution design software, the National Electric Safety Code, and utility best practices

  • Demonstrated ability to develop client relationship, write proposals and manage projects from a technical and administrative perspective

  • The ability to lead and direct a team of engineers, designers, and drafters

  • Assisting with developing proposals, work plans, budgets, and schedules as well as assisting with managing each element will be required

  • Must be able to successfully pass client's background screening process

  • Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record

Desired Education/Experience

  • A two-year technical certificate or degree, prior utility design experience, or distribution line construction

  • Exposure to utility Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Work Management software such as Maximo, STORMS, GE Smallworld, ArcFM, etc

  • Strong command of the English language and possess good written and oral communications skills
