South Middlesex Opportunity Council Case Manager, Resident in Framingham, Massachusetts

SUMMARY

Provide comprehensive case management and support services to program participants in a confidential shelter for victims of domestic violence and their children.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide comprehensive case management, supportive counseling and advocacy to address participants' needs; meet weekly/individually with participants to provide safety planning, housing search, finding legal assistance, obtaining childcare, obtaining government benefits, conducting job searches, and meeting other identified work/life goals.

  • Work in partnership with program advocate to provide accompaniment/transportation for participants to various locations; agencies/meetings/court/ appointments to facilitate engagement and access to services.

  • Develop and maintain familiarity with schools, DTA, healthcare providers, educational resources (both within and outside of SMOC), housing resources, and other services that support survivors and their children.

  • Monitor the ongoing safety needs of the shelter and program participants.

  • Co-facilitate weekly support group for residents and/or children as needed.

  • Assist in ongoing shelter upkeep and operations including but not limited to general housekeeping, cleaning and preparing rooms for new participants; identifying/documenting maintenance needs.

  • Participate in rotating on-call (requires evenings and weekends).

  • Answer hotline and provide crisis intervention, information and referrals as needed.

  • Maintain accurate records, case files and monthly statistics.

  • Attend all agency staff, clinical, and supervision meetings.

  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to agency mission, philosophies and policies.

  • All other duties as assigned by supervisor.

  • Engage all clients by understanding and addressing their needs whether within or outside the scope of work.

  • Attend & participate in engagement team meetings as requested and communicate effectively with clients and staff in other areas.

  • Maintain confidentiality of client, employee and agency information in accordance with federal and state laws and funder requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with program/department, agency and/or funder requirements, as well as SMOC policies & procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • BA in relevant field (social work, human services, psychology) preferred, but a combination of education and experience will be considered.

  • Previous experience with sexual assault or domestic violence survivors required.

  • Knowledge of criminal justice and probate issues preferred.

  • Fluent (written and spoken) in Spanish or Portuguese preferred.

  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills required.

  • Must have valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and meet insurance standards.

  • Must successfully complete a mandatory pre-service training.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP

  • Directly reports to shelter program manager.

  • Indirectly reports to none.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequent stair climbing in a 3-story residential setting with no elevator.

  • Ability to drive both long and short distances.

  • Ability to do general housekeeping and cleaning.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Frequent driving is required. As part of the responsibilities of this position, the case manager will have direct or incidental contact with clients served by SMOC in various programs funded or administered through the Executive Office of Health and Human Services. A successful background check is required.
