South Middlesex Opportunity Council Peer Recovery Coach, SBH in Framingham, Massachusetts

SUMMARY

Provide non-clinical, peer-based activities that engage, educate and support an individual in their recovery from substance use. This position is part of SMOC Behavioral Health’s services.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide individual and group support to referred and self-referred recoverees.

  • Create and maintain accurate recoveree files and records, complete required ongoing paperwork.

  • Establish a recovery plan with each individual and update regularly.

  • Engage all recoverees by understanding and addressing their needs whether within or outside the scope of work.

  • Maintain confidentiality of recoveree, employee and agency information in accordance with federal and state laws and funder requirements.

  • Establish prior authorizations, five contacts per month, recovery plan and wellness plan for billing

  • Attend & participate in team meetings, stakeholders’ meetings as requested and communicate effectively with recoverees and staff in other areas.

  • Drive recoverees to appropriate recovery activities if required.

  • Ensure compliance with program/department, agency and/or funder requirements, as well as SMOC policies & procedures.

  • Collaborate and communicate with staff as needed.

  • Provide related information and referrals to community-based resources.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Acquire authorizations and pre-authorizations for Recovery Coach services.

  • Maintain up to date wellness plans and 5 contacts per month for billing

  • Fill out BSAS forms and enter into virtual gateway

  • Averaging a case load of 25 peers per month.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have lived experience with substance use and be in recovery.

  • Completed or willing to complete the Recovery Coach Academy Training

  • The ability to work independently

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills – bilingual is a plus

  • Excellent organizational skills in order to keep up with the administrative responsibilities

  • Valid MA driver’s license, reliable transportation and ability to meet insurance standards.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP

  • Reports directly to Director of Outpatient Substance Use Services

  • Direct reports of this position are none.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to drive

  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs

  • This is a hybrid position 35 hours a week.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position may be located in a residence which may not be handicapped accessible. Some travel with recoverees is required. As part of the responsibilities of this position, the Recovery Coach will have direct or incidental contact with recoverees served by SMOC in various programs funded or administered through the Executive Office of Health and Human Services. A successful background check is required.
