How you will make an impact:

The Value Added/Value Engineering employee is a member of the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team in the Environmental and Process Monitoring business. The role is for a hands-on engineer who is motivated to actively work with the team to identify VAVE and other cost out ideas and to complete the implementation of those ideas. This person will prioritize, design and qualify components and systems for existing globally manufactured products to help reduce recurring material, labor, and overhead costs. This engineer is expected to make a difference in meeting yearly cost out targets.

What you will do:

  • Work with multi functional team of engineers, scientists and operations personnel to develop, test and implement changes to our instruments to reduce our costs

  • Connect with R&D, Quality, Purchasing, Sourcing, Manufacturing, Sales, Service, Finance and Marketing groups to identify possible cost reductions

  • Generate and update specifications, drawings, bills of material, work instructions and other documentation

  • Support sourcing team by working with suppliers for product improvements, supply chain improvements and cost savings

How you will get here:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, or related field. Master’s degree is preferred.

Experience

  • 1+ years’ (Masters’ degree 0.5+ years’) experience with electro-mechanical assembly in a low to med volume facility

  • Experience with cost take out/VAVE project methodologies and execution with mechanical, and electrical components preferred

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Demonstrated expertise to apply DFx (manufacturability, assembly, serviceability, safety, cost) knowledge to instrument designs

  • Proven ability to drive solid engineering solution to sophisticated problems using best in class tools, with an understanding of Design of Experiment (DOE) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA).

  • Must have good interpersonal skills to work globally and across functions

  • Evident passion, flexibility, initiative, creativity, ownership and problem-solving skills

  • Ablility to capture and analyze large amounts of data to identify the best project opportunities based on data – Pareto, force rank, effort vs impact, etc., is preferred

  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and experienced with tolerance analysis is preferred

Travel

Travel to domestic and international sites is required and ranges from 10 - 25% of work time.
