Applied Materials Commodity Business Manager III in Gloucester, Massachusetts

Requires specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise. Interprets internal or external business issues and recommends best practices. Solves complex problems; takes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions. Works independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations. May lead functional teams or projects.

Key Responsibilities

Develops, aligns and implements commodity strategies. Negotiates and manages the maintenance of agreements with suppliers that provide the structure for all business relationships between Applied Materials and the supply base. Engages with the Product Life Cycle (PLC) process to ensure alignment with the commodity strategies. Directs new supplier introduction and/or disengagement requirements to/from the Applied Materials supply base. Drives resolution to systemic supply chain issues affecting quality, cost, delivery or lead-time, which may include engagement with sub-tiers in the supply chain. Develops and presents high level cost reduction opportunities.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree, ideally technical and business combination. SAP experience a plus.

  • 4-7 years of proven progressive experience, performance and background in strategic, global sourcing

Specific Requirements

Experience procuring and managing of high purity welded gas and water systems as well as a strong track record of managing OEM supply chain activities

SAP experience a significant differentiator, ERP system knowledge required

Strong verbal and written communications skills – comfort level presenting commodity strategy and performance to all levels of business unit management

Strong negotiating skills – documented track record of achievements

Strong use of the MS Suite of tools or comparable spreadsheet/word processing software

Strong focus on providing customer service – internally and externally

Strong management and people skills – serve as a leader and mentor to a Buyer teammate

Comfortable working in a fast paced and stressful environment

This position requires a strong background in Supplier and Commodity management. The successful candidate will have experience in managing a diverse supply base in a tactical as well as strategic role. The successful candidate will have had success in the awarding and sourcing of assemblies and components using a total cost business. Ability to articulate decisions based on data analysis, as well as supplier assessment and selection is needed. This position requires extensive knowledge and experience with low cost sourcing, make vs. buy analysis and decision making, enabling and executing pull system / kanban initiatives, contract negotiations, and supporting new product introductions. In addition, the successful candidate must be skilled in negotiating inventory agreements for the purpose of securing significant operational efficiencies and minimizing lead-times. It requires an individual with the skill set to manage internal and external relationships leveraging his/her knowledge of manufacturing operations to ensure optimal results.
