Applied Materials’ Research and Development department (Varian R&D) is searching for an intern to join our team in 2025! Our R&D department is working on state-of-the-art implantation tools which are the backbone of the semiconductor industry. Through novel engineering we are advancing processes such as doping, and material modification. The position will entail the following:

  • Assist with laboratory process demonstrations, including tool preparation, processing wafers, measuring wafers, analyzing results, and documentation. Some chemical handling is required.

  • Lead small development projects involving wafer processing and metrology, and present the results

  • Support process engineering through procurement, shipping, and inventory functions

Requirements

  • Preference for students in their final year in a Doctoral degree in Materials Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Electrical Engineering or a related field

  • Available to work for 9 months

  • Student must be in good academic standing at their university, with a preferred GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale

  • Quick learner. Hands-on and not afraid of building and dissembling things. Good communication skills. Well organized with attention to details.

  • Experience/knowledge in semiconductor processing or manufacturing a big plus

Compensation

$43 - $47 per hour

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on a number of factors including location and education level and will vary depending on confirmed job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
