Baystate Health Audiologist - 24 hours - Days in Greenfield, Massachusetts

Summary:

Provides comprehensive evaluative, rehabilitative, preventative, and referral services for patients concerned about hearing loss on an inpatient, outpatient, homecare, and contract basis. Instructs patients, families and other support personnel in rehabilitative/habilitative measures, monitors patients’ progress and maintains clinical records. At this level, incumbent is expected to function independently. This description covers the essential functions of the position. Incumbent is expected to perform other similar and related duties as assigned. Management has the right to change or add to the job responsibilities at any time. Observe all health and safety requirements.

Job Responsibilities:

1) Identifies, evaluates, treats and follows up clients on an inpatient, outpatient, homecare and contract basis as assigned.

2) Provides age-appropriate care to patients. Demonstrated knowledge of developmental stages for the following age groups (infant/child, adolescence, adult and older, geriatrics) and applies developmental theories and concepts when planning and implementing care for patients as appropriate per assignment.

3) Evaluates the appropriateness of diagnostic and therapeutic materials and equipment. Contributes to purchasing decisions. Is responsible for condition of materials, equipment and tests used. Initiates and follows up on necessary action in relation to patients and equipment.

4) Determines appropriate plans for clients and recommendations for continued care.

5) Counsels clients, families and others in relation to understanding and assisting in the identification and treatment of hearing impairment.

6) Encourages and maintains cooperation with other professionals, agencies and services.

7) Completes necessary documentation to comply with professional standards and department procedures for initial consult/evaluation, SOAP notes, and all care related visits, telephone contacts or other contacts. Writes necessary records and reports for all clients and the department.

8) Provides information and consultation to patients, families, care partners and other healthcare personnel involved with patient management in relation to understanding and assisting in the identification and treatment of hearing impairment.

9) Participates actively in the departmental team and other teams involved with clients. Participates and shares continuing education experiences.

10) Supervises volunteers, students, and interns as directed. Assists with on-the-job orientation and training of new staff.

11) Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies and protocols.

12) Completes department operational procedures, including scheduling, billing, equipment usage, time off requests and caseload coverage assignments

13) Demonstrates relevant knowledge and application of clinical skills in evaluation, treatment and counseling

14) Meets productivity expectations as determined by the department standards

15) Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.

16) Conveys information obtained from continuing education programs to team members by developing and conducting in-service training programs.

17) Adheres to the ASHA Code of ethics. Follows hospital and departmental policies and professional standards

18) Competence in at least one higher level audiology skill such as:

ABR under natural sleep or anesthesia

adult cochlear implant evaluation and programming

advanced pediatric skills: diagnostic behavioral evaluations, hearing aid and cochlear implant evaluation and programming for very young infants.

19) Provide additional support to the department through involvement in ordering supplies, working with vendors, consulting on department projects, consulting on formation of audiology polices, maintaining equipment annual calibration.

Minimally Required Education:

Master's Degree

Preferred Education:

Doctorate Audiology

Minimally Required Experience:

3-5 years of experience as an audiologist. Successfully met career ladder requirements for level II

Preferred Experience:

3-5 years experience preferred

Skills/Competencies:

Mid-level audiology skills, health promotion and maintenance, creating a safe effective environment, motivating others, legal compliance, quality focus, bedside manner, clinical skills, persistence, energy level.
