Summary:

The cardiac rehab nurse at BFMC is responsible for implementing all aspects of the cardiac rehab program, including daily operational flow of the program. The RN assesses plans, supervises and evaluates all direct and non-direct patient care in the program. The RN serves as the primary coordinator for all disciplines in the program and demonstrates a collaborative interaction as part of the multi-disciplinary team.

The Cardiac Rehab RN has a comprehensive understanding of cardiovascular patient assessment skills and is well versed in contemporary management of a variety of cardiovascular conditions and current treatment modalities. The individual is familiar with current management of blood pressure, lipids, diabetes, tobacco cessation, weight, and psychological issues; exercise training; and counseling for psychosocial, nutritional and physical activity issues (core competencies).

The RN has exercise testing and training experience and is competent in the recognition and management of life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias, EKG interpretation, myocardial ischemia/infarction, and exercise tolerance.

The RN must have excellent communication and organizational skills. It is crucial that the Cardiac Rehab RN has ability to work independently. The RN clearly communicates and educates patients and families regarding the cardiac event, disease management, behavioral strategies for lifestyle/risk modification and psychosocial support. Displays enthusiasm and confidence with an

ability to motivate self and others.

The administrative aspects of the program are coordinated by the Cardiac Rehab RN. These include comprehensive insurance knowledge, program eligibility criteria, organizing referrals and scheduling initial intakes. They are responsible for organizing program certification (AACVPR), policy development and annual program competencies. Responsible for program outcomes and performance measures.

Adheres to system and department compliance policies, and any and all applicable laws and regulations. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education:

Bachelor of Nursing Degree, Diploma in Nursing: Nursing (Required)

Certifications:

Basic Life Support - American Heart Association, Registered Nurse - State of Massachusetts
