Assessment & Qualifications Senior Software Developer in Hadley, Massachusetts

Summary

We are looking for a senior software developer to join our team at the Evaluations Systems group which is part of Pearson VUE Assessments and Qualifications. As a senior software developer, you will work on custom software and integrations to support the Evaluation Systems business focused primarily on developing teacher certification programs under state contracts. Evaluation Systems develops all aspects of certification programs including test/assessment design, registration, test delivery, portfolio assessment management, scoring and test results publishing and reporting. Software developers and managers at Evaluation Systems value quality work and expect you to identify and promote best practices for the team to ensure quality. You will help lead a team of software developers supported by a software development manager/architect to develop the technical implementation, design, write, and test code and SQL for new features and enhancements to current platforms, applications, and services. The software development teams follow an agile process.

What to demonstrate

  • Experience leading design, develop, and deployment of business software solutions

  • Experience mentoring other developers

  • Project collaboration with quality assurance, program managers, business analysts, product owners, and dev ops

  • Ability to give and receive respectful feedback

  • Knowledge and skills implementing best practices for information security and compliance, scalability, maintainability, and efficiency in software development

  • Proficiency coding in C#, development experience with Microsoft web/web service technologies, front end web technologies, and the Visual Studio development environment

  • Proficiency data modeling, writing performant SQL queries and stored procedures

What you will do when you start

  • Set up your complete local development environment with collaborators on the development team so that you can run, troubleshoot, and deep dive into the current software and services

  • Participate in daily standup meetings with the development team, quality assurance, and business analyst and bi-weekly iteration and release planning

  • Own work items (user stories/defects) and review with developer or manager to determine the approach for a solution. Code the solution with regular feedback.

  • Review Pull Requests from other developers.

  • Learn to prioritize and estimate work and develop technical requirements from business requirements

  • Develop the knowledge and skills to work on the highest value and highest priority work through experience and regular feedback and direction from your manager

Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. As required by the Colorado, California, Washington State, New York State and New York City laws, the pay range for this position is as follows:

The minimum full-time salary range is between $95k-115k
