Department Summary:

MITRE’s Responsive Operational Planning (ROP) Department in the Air Operations Division of the Air & Space Forces Center is seeking a Lead Software Systems Engineer to support multiple projects. The successful candidate will provide subject matter expertise in Agile Software Development, Continuous Delivery, Continuous Integration, and DevSecOps to help our sponsors modernize their Command and Control (C2) capabilities and how they are developed.

The position requires working side-by-side with the sponsor at Hanscom Air Force Base, as well as with the engineers from MITRE, the government, and other contractors to provide recommendations, and to develop architectures, roadmaps, and other technical products. The selected candidate will apply their technical background to advise the sponsor and their contractors.

Lastly, the selected candidate will contribute to strategic initiatives as requested by the Department Manager, Outcome Leader, Department and/or Division Chief Engineer, and their Project Leaders.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop high valued work, identify resources to execute the work products, lead the development of these products, and communicate status with the team and customer.

  • Provide objective solutions and recommendations to address customer challenges.

  • Build and sustain a trusted relationship with the customer and key stakeholders.

  • Communicate, written and verbally, with customer and MITRE on status of products in a concise, professional, and timely manner.

  • Collaborate across MITRE, DoD, and external partners.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI DoD clearance.

  • Strong knowledge of agile software development methodologies and DevSecOps processes.

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills with experience briefing VIPs.

  • Ability to collaborate across multiple teams working on large and diverse projects.

  • Documented track record of building sponsor trusted advisor relationships.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with operational command and control concepts and/or technologies.

  • Proven track record of innovation.
