Summer Learning Academy Internship Coordinator The Department of Enrichment and Extended Learning is responsible for the planning and oversight of afterschool, vacation, and summer learning opportunities that meet the unique needs and pathways for students attending Holyoke Public Schools. We believe that if we: Identify the knowledge and skills needed for students to step up successfully and develop a project based, standards aligned curriculum across all grade levels Embed research best practices throughout every aspect of program design Engage CBOs and other enrichment providers in planning and implementing bold, innovative, project based and standards informed enrichment Engage and support the best teachers through high quality curriculum resources, professional learning and ongoing observation and feedback Involve and build relationships with students and families throughout the process Then we?ll fill seats, improve academic outcomes for students, and reverse summer slide. Holyoke Public Schools offers an excellent summer program that reinforces skills learned during the year, strengthens skills identified as areas of concern, and provides a supportive environment for student academic and socio-emotional growth. DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Director and Assistant Director of Enrichment and Extended Learning, the Summer Learning Academy Internship Coordinator works with the site coordinator to plan and provide a high quality summer internship program for high school students. The Summer Learning Academy Internship program is designed to enhance student learning through engaging, social emotional development and work based experiences. To ensure intern success, the Internship Coordinator will also collaborate with the Holyoke High School Advanced Learning Coordinator to facilitate a student centered and high quality 5-week summer internship program. The program will run July 5th-August 4th Mondays-Thursdays with tentative hours of 9am-3:00pm. Summer Learning Academy Teacher Performance Responsibilities: Pre-Program Work Engage in curriculum development and planning for the 5-week internship program Attend paid Summer Learning Academy orientation and professional development sessions in June Job Description Manage 10 high school aged interns for the 5-week summer internship program Conduct student interest assessments Conduct workplace readiness workshops Facilitate goal setting and strategic planning discussions and activities Facilitate appropriate interventions to address students internship based needs Counsel interns on career development and personal growth plans QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor?s Degree preferred Commitment to ensuring social emotional and academic success for all interns Experience working in an urban setting, preferred Experience working with diverse student populations, preferred Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent teamwork skills Bilingual applicants (Spanish) strongly encouraged to apply Interested candidates must be available from July 5th to August 4th, Monday-Thursday. WORK ENVIRONMENT: These positions are performed in schools and/or outside settings where the environmental conditions should have no effect on how the jobs are performed. Compensation: $50.00 per hour
