Robert Half International Senior Purchasing Agent in HYANNIS, Massachusetts

Description

Basic Function: The Buyer is responsible for coordinating purchasing activities with production control, operations/manufacturing, and engineering teams to acquire inventory in the most cost effective and timely manner. This individual will be responsible for acquiring and maintaining a technical understanding of products purchased. In addition, will perform price analysis and volume planning for major commodities. Responsibilities will also include gathering quotations and obtaining materials, components, equipment and services. Will monitor and report on purchase price variances and will evaluate supplier reliability regarding on time delivery.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support and lead specific supplier selection, negotiation and supplier management strategies – maintain alignment and support strategy development on entire category with overall category owner Timely and accurate procurement and delivery of part supplies and services per internal corporate procedures.

• Drive awareness of active supply issues clarifying business impact and lead resolution plans.

• Review open orders and expedite as required for compliance with production schedule.

• Create and assist with purchasing reports as required and maintain all related purchasing files.

• Investigate and solve related issues and problems using peers and management personnel to optimize customer satisfaction.

• Assist with the processing and disposition of discrepant materials reports.

• Establish new vendors and evaluate current vendors as required.

• Obtain beneficial pricing, negotiate price and delivery as well as total cost savings through changes in suppliers, specification and supplier collaboration.

• Interface between vendors, accounting, engineering and production departments to resolve invoicing, technical and delivery issues.

• Maintain accurate paperwork flow on a timely basis.

• Other related duties as required.

Skills and Abilities Required:

• Demonstrated skills and experience in purchasing, scheduling, material requirements planning, inventory management, risk management, supplier relationship management and manufacturing resource planning.

• Strong problem solving and decision-making capabilities.

• Team player with the highest level of customer focus.

• Demonstrated ability to manage conflict by identifying and handling conflicts in a sensible, fair and efficient manner.

• Previous experience in a make-to-order manufacturing environment managing a wide range of mechanical commodity areas and related suppliers.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Maintains the highest levels of integrity.

Education and Experience:

• This position requires a bachelor’s degree in supply chain, operations, engineering or related discipline plus 7 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 10 - 12 years of relevant experience is required.

• Ability to understand and discuss basic technical material and part drawings.

• Proficient in Excel, Word and other standard MS business applications.

• Understanding of Push/Pull, Min./Max., LEAN Kanban supply systems/concepts
