JTEC Youth Career Consultant in Hyannis, Massachusetts

The Youth Career Consultant works with WIOA Out of School Youth ages 16 to 24. The consultant provides a variety of educational, vocational, and personal counseling services( which may include outreach, intake and assessment).Designs, plans, implements and facilitates group and individual parenting, life skills, and work maturity skills workshops. Completes client applications, assesses client?s potential using established methods and develops a realistic employment, education and training plan. Advises and interacts with the youth on his/her needs and issues. Works closely with community organizations, staff and supervisors to ensure a smooth flow of services for the youth. SUPERVISION RECEIVED The Youth Career Consultant works under the general supervision of the Career Center Manager. Guides and policies cover overall duties. Some instruction may be given for unusual types of assignments. Where regular duties are performed independently within policy, some latitude is expected. MAJOR DUTIES Accurately records information about education, work history, training related issues/barriers, income and other data needed to determine eligibility and appropriateness for services. Assists youth in developing a realistic career plan by reviewing educational background, test results, work experience and occupational interests. Ensures youth participants are progressing and attending the program as required. Writes narrative reports to document the youth?s progress. Works closely with youth and other staff to ensure success. Provides individual and group workshops to youth covering a variety of personal, vocational and educational related topics. Maintains time and attendance for all participants in his/her caseload. Networks and maintains effective communication with schools and community agencies. Gathers information and makes referrals as necessary. Performs other related duties and developmental tasks as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of employment and training program rules and regulations for WIOA Out of School Youth. Working knowledge of individual and group counseling, interviewing, screening and assessment techniques. Knowledge of area labor market needs and requirements for various employment opportunities. Knowledge of youth\'s developmental stages and behavioral dynamics. Knowledge of educational, labor market and employment and training needs of out of school youth. Ability to work with tact, diplomacy, and negotiation skills to assist out-of-school youth and youth department staff in achieving positive outcomes. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional discretion. SUGGESTED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor\'s Degree required. At least three (3) years of experience directly related to working with youth i.e. guidance counselor or employment counselor required . Demonstrated awareness of skills needed to be successful in the world of work. Any combination of training and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Working knowledge of computer systems and programs. Valid driver?s license and access to own transportation is required.
