Hyannis Public Library Youth Services Librarian in Hyannis, Massachusetts

Hyannis Public Library, seeks a creative, outgoing and community-oriented individual to serve as Youth Services Librarian. The ideal candidate will be able to engage with our multicultural families and create a robust array of in-person and virtual opportunities that celebrate and strengthen the community. The Youth Services Librarian will continue to build and diversify the children?s and young adults? collection, seek out partnerships with schools and youthfocused organizations and embed the Library?s Youth Services offerings through outreach. Statement of Duties Plans, organizes and implements in-Library and outreach programs for children ages birth to 17, including story hours, reading clubs, maker programs and intergenerational events. Develops these programs in collaboration with local schools and preschools, families, various community groups and other Library and local network staff. Recruits, trains, supervises and develops projects for Children?s Room volunteers. Keeps current with developments in cultural competency, children?s and young adult literature, film and music, popular digital technologies, programming developments, social-emotional library practice and related library services and resources. Uses social media, the Library?s website and print materials in collaboration with the Community Programs Librarian and Communications Consultant to publicize programs and expand the Library?s audience, particularly English Language Learners. Pursues grant funding opportunities in collaboration with the Library?s Director and Community Programs Librarian to support programs. Selects materials for acquisition and weeding. Manages a budget for children?s and young adult materials and programs. Additionally, the Youth Services Librarian assists patrons of all ages with circulation services and in using Library resources as needed. Other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Experience providing children?s educational/informational outreach services to diverse communities. Fluency in English; conversational fluency in Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Spanish or other community-spoken language preferred. Interest in children?s literature and literacy and the principles/practices of library work. Facility with computer and mobile device apps and technology. A degree in Library and Information Science and/or a combination of relevant, youth-focused education and experience serving children/young adults is required.
