Greater Lawrence Community Action Council Education Coordinator in Lawrence, Massachusetts

Job Summary: 

Responsible for assisting in the overall implementation and execution of Child Development principles and school readiness efforts including leadership and technical expertise for Education staff. Ensures integrity of all data collected and produces accurate reports for decision-making for quality improvement. Working with Education Supervisors assures CLASS implementation and execution in all preschool classrooms. Ensures interpretation and implementation of all aspects of Head Start Performance Standards, DEEC regulations, funding source requirements and policies/practices. Work in partnership with Education Manager for the common goal of program excellence.

Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides direction and leadership to the Education content area to assure school readiness.

  • Responsible for the overall analysis of data for School Readiness and submission to Education Manager.

  • Works in partnership with other program managers to plan and implement comprehensive services to children and their families, including services for children with special needs.  

  • Analyze quarterly child outcome reports utilizing the results of TS Gold assessment tool and evaluate results of ongoing observations of children to make recommendations for continuous improvement regarding teacher-child interaction, behavior modification strategies, and staff interaction.

  • Assure bi-annual CLASS observations in all preschool classrooms; analyzes results and make recommendations for ongoing professional development of teachers.

  • Quality control of children's assessment data entry and outcome reports.

  • Work with Education Supervisors ensuring oversight of all classroom practices - room arrangement, lesson plans, daily schedules, routines, and transitions to assure their adherence to program policies.

  • Creates and implements program evaluation to ensure CLASS standards are met.

  • Responsible for ensuring a framework for effective practice, high-quality educational programs, and school readiness.

  • Confer with Education Manager to review achievements and discuss required changes in program emphasis based on outcomes.

  • Engage in ongoing monitoring of programs operation in collaboration with Education Manager.

  • Ensure that current programs are working effectively and assist with the design and implementation of new initiatives.

  • Assures remediation of any non-compliance and incorporates recommendations into planning for program improvement.

  • Other duties as needed based on the program needs.

Skills & Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s preferred) in Early Childhood Education or related field, plus a minimum of five years in supervision of staff.

  • DEEC Director II qualifications required (knowledge of DEEC & Head Start regulations a plus). 

  • Excellent communication, organizational, leadership, and Data Analysis and Interpretation skills.

  • Must have use of a car/means of transportation and a valid Driver’s License.

  • Flexible schedule is required to meet the needs of our children and families; including some evenings/weekends.

  • CPR and First Aid certificate preferred or ability to maintain CPR/ FA within 30 days of hire.

  • Show documented proof of current physical exam, negative TB test, and proof of MMR immunity.  (Hepatitis B immunity is advisable). 

  • Must have a suitable CORI, SORI & DCF background check on file prior to employment.

  • Must have a suitable fingerprint check completed prior to employment.

Travel:  Is required for training, meetings and to visit other sites.

Physical Demands: This position requires standing, walking, and sitting, as well as using hands repetitively to handle or operate standard office equipment. The employee is occasionally required to bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment and uses standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines.
